Hart
Johnson Cahill jagielka Baines
Henderson Gerrard Lallana
Rooney Sturridge Sterling

Johnson's only in because I cant think of a better RB right now?

Preferred position at CB but has and can play RB.

I think picking a team is hard, but the squad should be forming up nicely by now. I think that as the manager isn't under much pressure this time around perhaps he should go for some long shots and invest in the future.

What we do need is a team with the passion and flair of Liverpool and Everton, currently the two best teams by far with significant British players, many actually English. apart from Hart, Cahill, and perhaps Wilshire I'm struggling a bit to place players from City, Arsenal or Chelsea in the squad.

I think if you took the best from Liverpool, Everton and Southampton you've got more than half the squad.

not sure I'd even choose Rooney.

I can't see them going 4-3-3. It's a high energy game which I am not sure translates well to international football especially played in some of the temperatures they will be playing in.

Id have to agree with that team, people will say Ox or Wilshire should be in but the ox is hugely over rated and wilshire is glass boned.

My only worry is Rooney, he hasnt exactly been in sparkling form and he simply wont be able to sit back and provide the support for Sterling & Sturridge that Suarez does, its against his natural instinct.

In that heat, I'd find a place for Huddlestone.

Stones had a nightmare playing Liverpool as a RB, but as a CB he is solid. He has been recieving lots of positive press lately as well, with alleged interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, although at the moment Arsenal is a step down.

England should only play Walker/Johnson at RB. Yes they are not shining lights in terms of defending but they play RB week in week out. Why do we always feel the need to play people out of position just because they have played there for their club a few times (Smalling/Jones) pick players in their position.

Fair point, well made. He's one for the future for sure, who would ever think anything decent would come out of Penistone/Barnsley.

Everton thread just reminded me about Ross Barkley, I would find a place for him in the squad.

Anybody had a go at the squad selector on the skysports website? http://www1.skysports.com/FIFA-World-Cup-2014/engl...

We have a real lack of decent CB's, I didn't really want to pick Jones/Smalling but there's no real choice!

Also difficult narrowing it down to 8 midfielders.

Goalkeepers
J. Butland
F. Forster
J. Hart

Defenders

L. Baines
G. Cahill
P. Jagielka
G. Johnson
P. Jones
L. Shaw
C. Smalling
K. Walker

Midfielders
S. Gerrard
J. Henderson
A. Lallana
J. Milner
A. Oxlade-Chamberlain
R. Sterling
A. Townsend
J. Wilshere

Strikers
R. Lambert
W. Rooney
D. Sturridge
D. Welbeck

Do Rooney and Welbeck really deserve a spot in this team? On form I'd say definitely not.

Sturridge is number one choice for me. Rooney would be a bench warmer.

I'm not sure Rooney would get in my starting 11. He shouldn't but we know he will. I actually think he's a detriment to any team and too often goes chasing the ball all over the place. Because of that I'd not start him as a striker at all.

I'd set up the way Liverpool play and put Lallana in the team like you, probably where Coutinho plays. Can Rooney do what Suarez does? I really don't think so. But then it doesn't really matter with Roy. He'll play some crap version of 442 and/or 451.
