Borini squashed by a player landing on his shoulder, going off injured after 8 mins and doesn't look good. You couldn't make it up!

Seen the squad and didn't bother watching it last night.
Might try and see if there are any highlights knocking about.

Will be about 2 minutes long if the first half is anything to go by. I watched 45 mins but couldn't be arsed with the rest, terrible game.

Unbelievable. Turns out mainly to be bruising. Bet Rodgers breathed a huge sigh of relief:

Let's face it, Borini is on his way out of Liverpool. Whether an Italian club comes in for him at £14m is another thing. One way or the other, he will have to accept the Sunderland move eventually.

The game last night was just a showcase of talent of fringe players, a few new ones and players who are being showcased for potential moves elsewhere. Namely Lucas, Borini and Coates.

First 45 of the Preston game was pretty poor I thought, then they brought the young lads on at 60 mins and it was a different game.
I hope to see the best 11 play in atleast one of the pre season games. Preferably the Dortmund game smile

Playing Borini is absolute stupidity. These games are about fitness, encouraging the younger players and developing the brand. Borini shoud not have been on that pitch.

Not anyone thought he was worth 14 million, BR should be slapping him and leaving him home because Borini thinks he's better than Sunderland. He clearly isn't and I've seen enough of this slow and over rated lump to know that a 4 million old man Lambert would be a better option than Borini.

Wrong. It's broken down over wages.

He really is under estimating the Suarez impact. Oh and Brendan, leaving money in the bank is useless once Sturridge is injured and/or we suddenly stop creating chances. An 8 million replacement with Remy and old man Lambert is not going to be enough. At best they replace Borini and Aspas in the squad.

Brendan Rodgers says he will continue to snub stellar names unless they fit the ‘right profile’ for Liverpool as he continues the £100 million reshaping of his side in the wake of Luis Suárez’s exit.
While some of the world’s biggest clubs pursue their obsession with marquee purchases, Rodgers says he would rather save funds than waste his money on vanity products.

The vanity is believing BRs managerial genius and the signing of Remy, Laser and Lallana will compensate for the loss of Suarez and that somehow we can push on without replacing Suarez with a marquee signing. Wonder what BR actually thinks is the 'right profile'?

This is getting silly. Starting the season with a practically zero net spend will not end well on the pitch. Its as though we're not even trying to push on to go for the title and last season was a blip.

How am I wrong? I don't care what it has broken down over, we shouldn't be risking him and whatever Borini thinks he's worth means nothing to us, the lad is average and should be forced out, not risked in a meaningless friendly.

I think you need to take your tablet and calm down.

Losing Suarez is a blow, lets not sugar coat it, but the liverpool way of old and now is normally to buy up and coming talent, not to go and spend £50m on a new striker that had a fab WC. We can't compete long term at that game with other clubs, better we buy the next £80m player and get 3-4 years out of him. To be honest if we get back to competing in champions league at the business end good chance we can keep them as well.

We didn't win the title because our squad was wafer thin, Moses was the only attacking option from the bench. Look at saurez end of season, the last five games he was on his knees and knackered, he needed a break. This year we will have options and players can be rested to keep sharp, Can could give henderson a break, Remy for Struridge in an FA cup game etc.

Yes as a fan you want a big signing, Reus etc, they are exciting, but it might not well come & its the traditional approach we normally go for. Think Keegan, Hansen, even suarez at £22m was in modern terms not a huge money move.

The worrying area for me is why more defenders haven't been signed, we still need a LB and commanding centre half.

This year will be tough, we have tough opening games, and the team needs to be rebuilt following suraez leaving. On the plus side sterling and counthino could be huge this year as both are young and ever improving.

We seem to be back in for 8 miilion for an average Bertrand rather than pay the extra 3 or 4 million for our number 1 left back target. You know this is getting silly. We need to pay the extra and secure Lovren and Moreno. That will sort the back 4 out. So far we've agreed to take a kid on loan that has hardly kicked a ball for right back. There's a point when its better to pay the extra 3 million (as in the case of Moreno) rather than waste 8 million on a player like Bertrand.

As for our past success, it was built on going out and buying big as well as nurturing talent. Of all our signings since BR has come in only Sturridge and Coutinho have proven to be worth more than we purchased them for. These players are rare. Generally, providing you're not stupid (35 million for a lump like Andy Carroll), you get what you pay for.

Assaidi, Allen, Aspas, Borini have all been very average and on the whole reflect the prices we paid. Sakho we paid big money for and he's looked solid so far, Mignolet could be improved on or at least needs to get better.

Laser and Lallana will perform, I'm confident of that. Remy might be another Coutinho/Sturridge. But come on lets not pretend that we can compete by not signing proven talent for big money. We have the money, we have Champions League football and we have the brand status. We now need to be brave and go out and get our number 1 targets, even if they end up costing a few million more. Moreno, Lovern and a 30 million pound forward.

We're not operating in a vacum GG. We have history. Happened last window, happened the window before also. I remember Alves on a plane and we refused to pay the extra 2 or 3 million. We ended up with Pennant.

We end up settling for squad fillers and taking punts on players. We're in the Champions League and we've just lost our best player. This talk of not spending the money and saving it for later is disgraceful.
