I think (hope) that Rogers will have developed a bit from last season. The Chelsea game was perhaps the one that was most messed up - he needs to know when to hold back somewhat in a few cases. The attacking football is great, but defencive games will be needed now and then.
100% agree! The Chelsea game should have been played like a game of chess; yes it would have made for boring viewing but who would have cared if we got the 3 points and won the title. Rodgers needs to learn when to play a second way.NRS said:

Having watched being:Liverpool I still think rodgers is a charlatan.
Will be interested to see if last season was a fluke/ how he manages without Suarez. Will no doubt be derided as a troll but I can remember eg Taylor and Gregory both having one good season with Villa then nothing so one swallow does not make a summer and all that.
Certainly made it interesting last season you guys putting in a strong challenge and you could have won it (had we not had games in hand ...) and be good to see you at least finish above United but I think having no mid week commitments and pretty much playing a settled 11 all season (my perception, will no doubt be shot down if I'm wrong on this) helped you a lot and that the mid week games will be a big challenge this season.
Are you happy with your signings to date? Obviously still a bit of time left but you need to replace Suarez's goals which is the one thing you haven't done yet.

I don't think you'll find a Liverpool fan who disagrees about the lack of games/ having a settled team helped us a lot. However that then comes to your nest questions. The sigining have been good to build up the depth of the squad, plus a few to improve it. Lovren could be key, as the main problem with defence last season is there was no leader - they all paniced and looked to each other. The main worry I have is the number of new players could create a problem in the team gelling - might take a while which could affect how the season pans out. Plus the problem BR will now face is the increased expectation this season has caused.
I'd like to see a proper footballing side challenging for the title rather than Chelsea grinding out results but I'm still sceptical about rodgers. If he delivers another top 3 place next season, which I think will be a big ask given that I think there are a few credible top 4 candidates, I'll have to eat my words.
Having a bigger squad will, of course, have its own issues in terms of keeping people happy but you should have more games to do that this season. And, like you say, there's the bedding in period, too. I always think the first few games are important in terms of getting momentum and confidence going (not always the case, as United showed over the years but they were unfortunately freakish in their ability to close seasons out) so I suspect the new signings may be introduced gradually.

I suspect taking the game to us (city) and getting the 3 points probably influenced his thinking on the Chelsea game, but the way mourinho sets his teams out I always expected you to drop points against them. At least you are set up to try to win games playing decent football unlike Chelsea.

Yes, it is much more interesting to watch. The problem was that they needed to come after us if they didn't get anything. Once they got the lead it was just a case of shutting the gate - and with the quality they have it's much harder to break down than the "smaller" teams who do the same. That said, we were very close in some ways. If it wasn't for an accident that wouldn't normally happen it could have been a win and we won't be here talking about it like this.I'd like to see a proper footballing side challenging for the title rather than Chelsea grinding out results but I'm still sceptical about rodgers. I would imagine so, that said the first few games we have are interesting.

This season will be harder, no question. Top 4, knock-out stages of CL and a cup run would be a great achievement. We're years behind Chelsea and Man City in terms of building. And Man U will be back up this year, along with Arsenal and Everton. Much more competitive league IMO.
More players still required. Hope they get it sorted.

It looks like they're playing on a half pitch, this near side touchline looks about 5 yards in from where it should be!
I'll give it 20mins to see if my eyes adjust to it
I watched a game in California in the early 80s - George Best was playing - and they didnt even bother to lay grass where the baseball bases where.I'll give it 20mins to see if my eyes adjust to it
The part of the pitch we are defending on the left is a joke and, as per the rest of the games, the remainder looks average at best.
Coates looks like he has lost at least a stone since I last saw him.
