I love the way United are piling on the flair players onto a midfield and defence made of cheese - is LvG a shyster who got lucky? does he go to bed at night pinching himself that at his age he gets to blow so much money - if Moyes had this cash available would United have trusted him to spend it?
I see trouble ahead.
You mean apart from the 2 defenders and 3 midfielders we have signed?I see trouble ahead.

I very much agree. I didn't want to post this on the Utd thread as I'll only be accused of trolling, but I can't see the strategy behind their signings. With us, there has clearly been a lot of thought that has gone into identifying our weak areas and then finding the best players to suit the roles that Brendan wants fulfilled. Even Balotelli, who was clearly a little bit of a panic buy, still fits the mould we required. However, with Utd it almost looks like they've just looked at a long list of players available and tried to pick out the biggest names. I have no idea how Falcao, Di Maria, RvP, Rooney and Mata are supposed to play together - they all seem like such different types of player. And all that completely distracts their fans from the complete defensive void that they currently have in their team.

Name your defence and remember its a back 3 + 2 DM`s and 2 wing backs - you haven't got the players but I am happy to be put right. (Lucas is available)
Well, Shaw is obviously world class and plays at LB for his country so there is one CB. Am I doing this correctly?selym said:

They have spent 50 odd million on 2 new signings for their defence though. And they've got a new central midfielder. So they've not just bought attackers. I'd have taken Di Maria over Laser and Falcao would improve every league winning team from last season. However, with Utd it almost looks like they've just looked at a long list of players available and tried to pick out the biggest names. Once they gel, they'll compete imo. I can't help but be envious of a team that is prepared to go out and risk buying big time after time. Meanwhile we're firmly stuck in the world of moneyball where we buy either emerging talent, clear bargains where an opportunity has arisen or take a gamble. If anything our approach to transfers is more handicapped than theirs. Admittedly their not buying players for a 352 but if they lined up as a 4132, 433 or 442 diamond like we do, they'd destroy teams.

Why is that? Do you think the likes of LVG would change one of the keystones of his whole management and coaching style after three matches? I'm not so sure. You really should educate yourself before making such comments
LvG's style, preferred formation whatever you want to call it has always been 4-3-3, he has even written articles espousing it, he is a student of the Dutch total football system which also utilises this formation
He has stated that we did not have the players to play it, as such he has had to try 3-5-2 until he could get the players he needed

I agree, if they work out a system to get the best out of those attackers players then they'll be quite something - top four at least anyway. Though I still think they're going to be more prone they we were last year defensively.Once they gel, they'll compete imo. However I'd take our transfer policy over 'buying names' any day.

The death throes of a lost argument, right there. Are you telling me you don't have the players for 4-3-3? Rafa-Jones-Rojo-Shaw
-Herrera--Blind--DiMaria
Mata----
---Rooney--Falcao
Ok its more of a 4-3-1-2 but in essence it is 4-3-3
Sorry scouse chaps, but a lot of nonsense is being spoken of our signings just wanted to correct them
Do you chaps think your business is done now? I know some of you wanted better than Mignolet in goal
Found this quite funny, nothing Liverpool related but can't bring myself to post something in the Utd thread. From a Utd fan worried about his defence:

We've gone from Rio to Rojo, it's making me go Blind with worry, I'm trying to Blackett out. But I'm not Shaw I Evra can. We need someone to Phil the gaps, but hopefully every cloud has Da Silva lining, Evans knows how we'll cope, but hoping our worries are not getting larger but are now Smalling comparison.
