If it was all about the money for Borini then he could have easily come to an agreement with either Sunderland or QPR, got a bit of a wage increase AND get regular football. Google seems to suggest that hes' on 40-50k with us, I can't imagine that neither Sunderland or QPR were offering less than that! It seems he was adamant he was staying at Liverpool, regardless of financials.
He was only ever going to move if he was able to double his money. If they were offering the same, what is the point? Liverpool are a top club and in the Champions League. No point in moving. I assume he signed a four year deal back in July 2012, which would mean if he sat on the bench here for a year, he moves into his final of his contract during next Summer's window he is able to get a big signing-on fee elsewhere, where no transfer fee is involved. So when he says on Twitter: "I protected the MAN and the player that I am today..." I think what we all know what he really means.

Where is the basis for this?

Its not just the 14 million. This boot cleaner is on what at least 30k a week.

I hope we bring him on with 30 seconds to go in the odd game after making him warm up for 30 minutes.

But you have said all along we needs 4 strikers - if he was off that would have been 3 ??? I think we are better off having him here till next year if we were not going to sign anyone ....

Yes I've said we need 4 strikers. Borini is crap and with Lambert we'll do well to get 30 minutes out of someone his age.

The club did everything it could to get rid of him. There is a reason why.

I am not saying they are or are not , what I am saying is if he had gone yesterday we would have had 3 - so surely better he stayed?

No, because its clear he's nothing more than a waste of a wage and the loss of a sale. I'd rather (and I think we will) see one of the kids promoted and Borini not make the matchday squad.

I'm disappointed that we also didn't sell Assaidi and Lucas. At least Assaidi is on loan but Lucas (and I am a fan) no longer fits the style of football we play. If we couldn't sell him, I'd have loaned him just to get the wages off the books. He'll be on quite a bit I think.

.
So we sell him - and the front 2 get injured - people would go mad we sold him and didn't buy anyone

saving 50k a week makes st all difference to me - id rather know we had 4 strikers

We have no one in youth anywhere near good enough to make the step up.

then I go back to the point I made above:

use Sterling
play 4 5 1 for a bit
promote a reserve forward (no worse than Borini IMHO)
buy a £5M Borini replacement in January

If we progress as we hope to in all competitions then Borini will be a useful donkey to carry some of the load and keep it off Sturridge and Balotelli, hopefully keeping them injury free in the process.

Rating him as a donkey is stupid! Bet there is not 1 Sunderland fan who didn't want him !

Sterling is good running at people not playing as the main man, why would you want him there? Anyway as we all know football is about opinions so let's just leave it at I think were better off with him than without him and no replacement!

A point made earlier was that playing with Sunderland or QPR and slogging it out in relegation battles would do nothing for Borini's career, and he prefers to stay in the limelight and get some game time with Liverpool. Well I for one certainly couldn't argue with a young man for doing that. It's his life, his career he should get a choice in it, not let others (those who gave him the contract, the club) or some expert keyboard warriors decide his face doesn't fit.

yes completely agree. We have no one in the youth to promote , the only half decent young striker we had we sold and that's the lad we took on pre season (Peterson ???)

So why did the club try to sell him on the last day of the window?

He did not ask for a transfer, he was given a contract by the club which they will honour. He is entitled to have a say in his future. Him being good enough for Liverpool is a different matter.

At first I was shocked to see Borini's outburst.

Having thought about it and seen the LFC forums I get the impression he wants to fight his way into a team that should do well. His chance should come when we want to rest the first choice players.

I'd much rather have someone who is passionate about staying and fighting for their place at our club than someone like Eto'o who'll only getting older and slower, be more expensive and clearly doesn't care about whose badge is on his shirt.

I'm sure if we went back 10 years most on here would be saying get rid of Neil Mellor before the season started. As long as his desire to play is there then I don't see a problem
