Maybe so, but the principle remains the same. If Borini & Lambert can bear the brunt of the league & early FA cup games to allow DS & MB to focus on the CL & league I'm all for it. IIRC DS missed at least 10 prem games last season when we had little else to worry about.

The finance men may have an issue with it but there's not much they can do about it now the windows shut

So why did the club try to sell him on the last day of the window?
He did not ask for a transfer, he was given a contract by the club which they will honour. He is entitled to have a say in his future. Him being good enough for Liverpool is a different matter.
Players that aren't good enough rarely ask for a transfer. I doubt Wellbeck asked for one. Nor do I think he stayed to fight for his place. If an Italian team had been in for him he'd be long gone imo.

We tried to sell him on the last day without having a replacement lined up. That says it all.

Borini is crap
RT you can't have it all ways.

He scored more than many last season in the prem - he's not 'crap'

You can't ask for a proven striker then state we should give a jr a chance.

We can't slate players about their loyalty and criticise one who wants to stay.

You can't presume to know why we wanted to sell him.

I'm glad we have a 4th choice who gets goals.

Borini is not a proven striker. We wanted to sell him because we'd decided he wasn't good enough. There is no other reason.

Someone who would be first choice into a lot of Prem teams should be fine to be our fourth choice striker!! For God sake when we had Torres we only had N'Gog as backup!

He's 4th choice and fine for that. How many 15 goals + strikers would come to us and accept that.

I disagree - he might not have had the right mentality, fit the style of play etc. Things change as witnessed by other players.

Where's this 15 goals plus coming from? He scored 7 (of the 7 wasn't 2 of them pens?). I'm also not a fan, no idea why we bought him in the first place. He's not quick off the mark, not pacey, not a great passer, shooting is below average (from what I've seen), not strong nor tall and not particularly skillful to go 1vs1. saying that, I also know he's not worst in those areas either and he probably tracks back a little too (to no affect) BUT overall he is definitely not up to scratch comparing to other top strikers in the PL. For me he bring nothing to LFC.

Regarding the point of being a 4th choice striker. Isn't that why we have a youth team? Bad move on Rodgers to shift off Ibe, surely there is someone in that large youth squad that may be able to make the occasional guest appearance. £14m for Borini would have been superb. IMO he's staying because he sees the other clubs as a step down and won't help him with his next big move. The club blatantly don't want him, he should have gone.

Shame Lucas didn't go too but as I've mentioned before it's also a shame Rodgers doesn't see Assaidi as a LFC player, I would have thought he'd be great with the way we play.

Lifted but seems accurate. With the loan fees and saving on wages we'll have saved another 10 million or so. Our net spend can't be more than 25 million. So my question really is - where has all the new TV money and Champions League money gone?

I am happy he stayed. One of the experienced players that can be invaluable as the season goes on. Developed ino a good player but hasn't adjusted to Gerrard playing in his preferred position. It's almost as though he has gone back to the way he played when he first joined Liverpool. Without Gerrard's shadow hanging over him, he may re-blossom. Only 27 and still got a lot to offer, even from the bench.

I never said he did - I asked how many 15+ goal strikers would come to us and play 4th string which is what you are asking for - not many is the answer.

Simply put Borini is 4th choice having scored a handful of goals last season. Compared to other 'big' clubs he's about right in standard as a 4th choice.

Amen. Can't believe the quantity of keyboard mashing going on over such a minor issue. Oh wait, yes I can rolleyes

Something tells me before this season is over we will be glad we didn't sell Lucas, especially for a nominal fee. Watch this space.

I don't expect to see a 15plus striker coming in as 4th choice. I'd rather a striker that has scored 15 plus at the top level in the past or a kid with potential to score 15plus. Borini is neither. Origi is a good example as was Eto'o.

Borini stayed because he wanted to put himself first. We should put ourselves first and not even have him in the match day squads. He'll soon change his mind come January when he'll go for 5 million to some Italian club.

Can't help yourself can you? Since when was 14 million plus another 2 or 3 in wages a minor issue?
