So how does this square with you buying Balotelli? He's never been mobile, and rarely, if ever, sacrifices himself for the team.
He will play in a 2 with Sturridge when both fit in a diamond.

Why can't Lambert do this, but Balotelli can?

Maybe worth asking BR not me?

Martin Skrtel is expected to earn a recall at Upton Park after recovering from a knee injury. Sakho is likely to make way. (James Pearce)

I think the purchase of Lambert was strange and doesn't fit with any real strategy we had for what our attacking line up would look like this season. We seemed to go from wanting one player to the next because of their name rather than their style of play. Once we knew that Suarez was leaving we started with wanting Sanchez and ended with Balotelli.

I'm sure Lambert will get games and score goals and I'm also sure that the reason Balotelli right now is getting games ahead of Lambert is because of his wider status. Balotelli is indeed no more mobile or hard working than Lambert.

So from this are you saying you think Lambert is equal to Balotelli ?

I don't know whether Lambert is equal to Balotelli...but I do know neither are anywhere near as good as Suarez and I am missing him already you just have to admire not only his talent but his work rate too.

With Lambert/Balotelli you have work rate with one and talent with the other but you need both attributes to be fully effective for me.

FWIW I think Lambert and Borini both have big roles to play this season and I have no problem seeing them on the pitch. I can't believe some people on here have written off Lambert - he was one of only a handful of players to get double-figure goals and assists last season, plus he outscored Negredo and Adebayor amongst others! I agree that he probably isn't mobile enough for our first choice formation, but everyone on here is always moaning about our lack of "plan B", which is what he brings to the team. As for Borini, I think he needs some gametime - he has barely made 20 appearances for the club (plus most of those were as a sub) so its too early to write him off. Whilst he is at the club and wants to play, then I'll back him (like the majority of people on here it seems). I'd rather have him than a sulky RVP which is invariably what is going to happen at man utd when he becomes bench fodder!

Whilst I'm here (its not often I can be bothered to post, pop-in everyday to read though!) I've been really disappointed with Coutinho so far this season. He is far too lightweight for my liking and seems to have spent most of the last couple of matches passing sideways. Lallanna looks much better to me for that position so looking forward to him being fully fit. He can be just as creative whilst having better strength/fitness. Also looking forward to seeing Skrtl back alongside Lovren - Sakho looking like a bit of a liability sadly (cue all the comments about Skrtel being an even bigger liability!)

Plan B was screamed for loads last year when teams parked the bus and Rodgers went out and bought Lambert to offer us something different, a target man who can also play with feet -- not everyone was happy of course

As for Coutinho - the lad has immense talent but is going through a bad patch - keep with him as he will be with us for a long time - need to remember he is still only 21

I think part of the problem is that he hasn't had the players ahead of him making the right runs. He often has the ball at his feet 30yds out looking for an opportunity to play it through but nothing's happening, hence he goes sideways/backwards. Perhaps he's only any good when he's got saurez ahead of him?!

Has anyone else noticed that there seemed to be a much bigger emphasis on getting the ball wide and crossing in the last 2 matches? Perhaps a nod towards how we have to play with balotelli up front on his own?

And then you bought Balotelli...more of a Plan B type player...so does this mean your Plan B becomes your Plan A...and you don't have the players to play Plan A any more?

No, of course not. Everyone expects you to go from plan A to plan B. Go straight to C and catch everyone out smile

I think people are forgetting how we played against Spurs, Sturridge and Balotelli together. Looking forward to them playing together again smile

Of course not. I'm saying Balotelli is a bigger name than Lambert. I'm also saying that Sanchez' style of play is nothing like Balotelli's.

I think I've solved our striker problems, especially now he's proved how accurate and powerful he can be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuxUVv1PDTc&li...

Important game today, brushed the likes of The Hammers aside last year. I'd take 2-0
