Interviewed about the Middlesbrough game, BR was asked if he had any concerns over the form of Steven Gerrard: "None whatsoever".
I know sometimes it is about protecting some players and then hoping the quality will come through next game. Yes SG is a legend of the club and rightly so, but is interesting how others are loyal players are treated i.e. Reina and Agger.
How does that make other players in the squad feel? When Couthinho wasn't playing well, he was dropped immediately. It is a contradiction.
A great manager does not have one rule for one and another rule for another.

What he says in public about players in his team currently, you would hope might not always be what is said behind closed doors. He can hardly come out and say "yes", can he?I know sometimes it is about protecting some players and then hoping the quality will come through next game. I get the impression that the more under pressure he is the more embarrassing it gets.
“Our passing disappointed me,” the Liverpool manager said. “We played more long passes than West Ham and that is something you have not seen from us in over the two years. We need to get back to doing what we do best. I look at the movement patterns in our team, our pressing in those patterns of pressure and, given the injuries, I need to retain a system for a longer period.
“The 4-4-2 diamond worked really well but it worked well with certain players and not at the weekend. Until I get all the players back that I know are multifunctional players, I’ll look at the strength of the players we do have fit. Hopefully that gives them confidence. Confidence has not been affected so far but if you don’t win games for too long it can be.”
Who are all these players that are out injured? The only first 11 player missing from last season is Sturridge and Flanagan. Allen rarely featured last season so I'm certain it's not him he's referring to. How on earth was he planning on playing a 442 diamond at the weekend with both Gerrard and Lucas in the starting 11, and if he really was why would he?
As for this quote, a very very poor excuse, weight of the jersey indeed.
“We’ve conceded eight goals and the majority of those could have been avoided but what people probably don’t get is the pressure of playing for such a big club. The weight of the jersey here is heavy for most players. Once you adapt to playing for Liverpool you become clearer in your thinking.”

The weight of the jersey thing is clearly nonsense. The foreign players you've brought in won't really have a clue about Liverpool. I mean Luke Shaw didn't even know who Tony Adams is and we're expecting overseas players to know that when they weren't even born (or very young) Liverpool were a dominant force in world football. “Our passing disappointed me,” the Liverpool manager said. “We played more long passes than West Ham and that is something you have not seen from us in over the two years. I'd just put it down to classic manager speak and move on.
On another note I read that Liverpool could be "at risk" of the FFP regulations.
I don't think the weight of the jersey thing is nonsense. Maybe for some players but not all. I think this is part of Mignolet's problem. At Sunderland he wouldn't have been under so much scrutiny for a few mistakes. At Liverpool every performance is now under intense scrutiny and he's under a lot of pressure to perform. Let's not forget that he's actually gone backwards in terms of performances since he arrived!
As for injuries, that sounds like BS just to get the journos off the team's back.

If a journalist is any good at their job, they should have pressed him on who exactly he was talking about. If BR thinks Sturrdige (and that is the only person really he really could have been talking about) is the magic bullet, good luck!As for the weight of the jersey, he should maybe look at his defensive coach and how much weight is in his pocket for the tactical nous he has brought over the past two seasons.

I've watched a few of the press conferences - seems the journos get one or two pre-arranged questions and that's about it. I've also seen our PR guy cut off journos asking certain questions too. They seem to be quite well marshalled.
The Alex Salmond of the football world! I'd much rather BR and the players just shut up and get on with doing their jobs properly. So fed up random crap coming out of people's mouths. "Oh they're all working really hard in training blabla..." I DON'T CARE! For what they get paid they effing well should be! Its a given! Just shush and let the performances speak for themselves...

Another day. Same old st.
The interview was in today's paper GG. It has our manager giving 2 reasons for our poor form, injuries and the 'weight of the jersey'. The discussion on here is valid. As for the point of us being at risk of FFP, I just can't see how that can be. We've spent very little in net transfer terms and have got some big wages off the books. I reckon if it's true it is because we failed to get Borini off the books

I hope its the manager who makes the decision on Gerrard as it would be a shame if it was the crowd who turned on him. For all Rodgers praise, Gerrard is a square peg in the defensive role. I fear sentiment will be the order of the day and more goals conceded will be the result.
Honestly I don't think there is ever any fear of that happening, the crowd turning on him bit I mean. If it was to happen, I for one certainly would not be coming over again. I do agree though, if he is the problem (I have seen very little this year to comment) then no one should be above being dropped even Stevie.
I think it's a bit harsh to say he has verbal diarrhoea and that he should shut up and do the talking with performances on the pitch. He HAS to do press conferences, he HAS to answer questions that are asked of him. We're a big club globally, with a global fanbase, whether you like it or not, I'm sure fans around the world enjoy reading his comments regarding the team and club because so few will actually get to games, maybe not even watch them.

Maybe a bit harsh but why say more stuff than he has to - he goes into more detail than necessary giving his detractors ammoGassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
