Really good analysis on MNF by Neville and Cara about Mignolet if you didn't see it it's worth watching.
I missed it but would interested in what they said. Can you give us a summary?

I personally think he needs to be moved on. He hasn't improved on last season, still looks very nervous especially on crosses/corners, he is not a leader and simply does nothing to inspire confidence in the defenders in front of him.

Sahko is another player that I don't think inspires much confidence either. He also seems to runs backwards like a virgin fleeing the advances of Don Juan, panics at times when he needs to makes a clearance. What I find it hard to understand is how BR decides who to drop and to keep in the team after consistent bad performances. Gerrard seems untouchable, Mignolet in a way is also untouchable as we don't have a reliable back-up.

And I also have zero faith in Balotelli. He simply doesn't suit our system - he will get the odd goal here or there but at the end of the season, I will be surprised if he finishes with more than 12 or 13 in all competitions. And that is the kind of return I would be expecting from an attacking midfielder. Can Couthinho, Henderson, Markovic or Lallana get into double figures. I just don't see that happening.

I really believe we are in for a hard, long season. I just can't even see us finishing 4th right now, let alone anywhere higher.

Just remember the 1 game we have had Balotelli, Sturridge and Sterling play and how they and us played as a team, - hold judgement just yet crikey

I know it's early days but I am just saying what I am observing. Thanks for the link - I just watched the analysis and have to say, yet again, the analysis from both is spot on. He crouches when he should be standing big and tall. Carragher at the end all but says he should be moved on. Sure Marokovic and Lallana need time to adjust, hell get used the weight of the jersey or whatever. In time they may come good. But then again, they may not.

Sturridge coming back will obviously improve the team but he is no magic bullet. He will create more space than the lackadaisical Balotelli but will he score us another 20 goals without another striker also creating the extra space required. I am not so sure.

I am not so sure, you go outside stand big and tall then jump and touch your highest point - then do the same crouching see which is higher....

So what were your thoughts on the 3 against spurs ?>?

The 3 points against Spurs was 1 game in 8 that we played well this season. And won. We will continue to struggle against teams that sit back and try and hit us on the break. The football in general hs been hard to watch this season, the Spurs game apart. Our ganme suits teams that try and come out attack, where we can get in behind the midfield. But it also does leave us exposed, especially when the wing backs go flying down the wings and don't track back. If BR does manage to rediscover the high pressing football, he needs to know when to deploy it and when not to.

The reason I brought that up was thats the only time Sturridge Sterling and Mario have played together - not just because we won 3-0

You shouldn't need to have to rely on Sturridge to beat West Ham or Villa. Nor will Sturridge improve our pressing game or defence. Yes he had a very good last season but looking back the pressing was done in the main by others.

I was impressed with Lallana's pressing against Everton. There was a moment towards the end where he was chasing the ball down and then waving his hands because everyone else had backed off.

As for Sakho, he will rightly be questioning why he is dropped when he hasn't done any worse than other defenders. Signing another left sided centre back was another bizarre decision over the summer. If you asked me at the end of last season where the improvement needed to take place I'd have said right sided centre back and not left.

I would have said the side didn't matter. Agger had done no better or worse than Skrtel. We just needed a leader at the back, one as CB and one in goal.

You go outside and put your hands at shoulder height and the reach up as quick as you can...so the same with your hands starting at your knees...which gets up highest quicker?

One thing for sure, going forward it will be interesting to see if he changes his crouching tiger position over the next few games, now that he has been "compared" to Neuer wink

I know it's only Horny's favourite trusted news source but this lad is a real prospect.

Speaking of promising youth, did we ever get anywhere trying to sign Will Hughes from Derby?

1-1

I think against Everton I saw some light with us defensively - not just about individuals more the set up of the team to not be quite as gung ho. Henderson never left Gerrards side, I think if we get that right and use Sterlings pace we should either draw or nick a win.

Didn't we lose to Basel a few years back? I don't know, my early season optimism has been seriously dented by the last few games. If we lose by the odd goal, I'll take that...

I'm going for a win. 2-0. We've had a slow start to the season but we will get back the fluid attacking style we saw last season (with or without Suarez).
