I think we should start with Borini and Lambert with Sterling in the hole behind, and I'd go with Henders, 'nana and Coutinho as the midfield three.
This formation was in my thoughts exactly. Borini and Lambert up top for the next PL game (Assuming sturridge isn't fit) and give them a shot! The reason Lambert isn't firing is because he's getting 10 mins here, 5 mins there. He needs regular time to score goals which he probably won't get at Anfield which is unfortunate.
Borini scored some great goals for Sunderland and proved himself at a relatively high level. Give the kid a chance.
Rodger's tactics are questionable at times, but as proper fans we have to stick with him and back him. Else we will become as fickle as the red and white ste of manchester.
Whilst I agree that Balotelli is not the right man to play as a lone striker, there is no way in a million years that BR was ever going to play 2 up front in a Champions league away match against a team with a pretty decent home record. I'm sure the plan would have been to play for the 0-0 with the hope of maybe snatching a goal on the break. And this is exactly what would have happened except for another defensive mistake!
The problem with Balotelli is that we seem to be changing the whole way we play to try and incorporate him and use his strengths, when really he needs a rocket up his arse to become the player we need to continue playing the way we did last season!

The problem is he seems to play the same way no matter what the situation calls for/ players available. That can help, but sometimes it's just not going to work. This season we don't have the players to get lots of goals currently, at least with the form they are in/not being used to each other. So we need to have less players pushing forwards as much to help firm up the defense somewhat and give them time that way/ build for next season when hopefully we have more than one striker who's any good.BlackST said:

As soon as Sturridge returns, all of your myriad problems will be over and forgotten. He will lead you to sunlit uplands and Premier League glory.
And then you'll sell him.
Sterling will be first to leave the sinking ship i feel. I think he's destined to be a good, good player And then you'll sell him.

Why would anyone expect that this manager has any clue of how to play at this level? As for relying on Sturridge to magically fix it all, absolute nonsense. There's 120 million pounds worth of new talent at his disposal.
He has the benefit of his entourage and all manner of analysis Shanks Paisley never had so surely it galls a bit when the tactical genius that is Souey gets the issue spot on and Stevie G admits they weren't up fir it.The latter makes me question his motivational skill
