It seems ludicrous that a 19/20 year old says he is too tired to play for his country. Regardless of who it is. Too tired I have a feeling is a pretty broad statement though. Does this mean he felt tight? Felt an injury just about to come on? Somehow I sincerely doubt it was because he had just had a night or two of bad sleep. Roy giving the press plenty ammo. Daft.

Theres a difference between saying 'i'm too tired (to play for my country) I cant play' and being asked 'are you feeling tired?'

In rugby it's standard for the sports scientists to assess each player every morning before training. Questions are asked on sleep quality, tiredness etc.

I would imagine it's the same in football and it's from one of these assessments that all this has derived.
