I'm curious why people think this? confused

I do get that our media seem to have an "interesting" way of treating people, but far as I know he wasn't chloroformed or kidnapped, he could very easily have said "Look I've just been given my dream job, the one I always wanted, I'm on £3m a year, I've got millions in the bank, I need to stay whiter than white so whatever the opportunity is I'm not interested thank you" and that would be that, no story.

But he didn't so here we are.
I don't understand why people think that either.

They have exposed the manager of the national football team, who is paid £3m a year:
- as a greedy individual;
- with colossally bad judgement;
- willing to offer advice on how to circumvent rules regarding the game he is one of the most public representatives of, those rules being laid down by the organisation he is employed by.

The Telegraph was lauded when it exposed the exploitation of the MPs' expenses system.

Them's the breaks once people with limited intelligence start (a) believing their own bullst and (b) thinking that they're untouchable. He was loving the attention and being seen as some sort of guru and didn't have the brains to deal with the reality. No sympathy whatsoever.
Once again though the main fault lies with the bampots at the FA who are so out of touch with the modern game with all its commercial ramifications and so unwilling to make way for professional business managers.

It is a bit sad and it sounds like he was roped into it by a 'friend' of many years.
Nevertheless, an England Manager has responsibilities beyond the norm.

He hasn't actually done anything illegal though has he?

Undercover journalism leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I would hate to be secretly taped, who wouldn't?

From a footballing pov, I'm glad he's gone because of his comments about 'not telling Rooney where to play'. What the actual F.

I'm not sure why more hasn't been made out of this Proctor House Newcastle stuff or am I exaggerating the situation?

It's a LLP with 33 directors involved with it including some massively high profile footballers; Leon Osman, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Turner, Roberto Martinez, Tony Hibbert, Sylvain Distin and Abdoulaye Faye are all there. It runs a boutique hotel, whatever that is....

Sam Allardyce is a director of it as are two England players, Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart. Two players who are clearly out of form and in most people's eyes, not worth their place in the England team yet they were both picked for the last international under..... Allardyce.

Like I said, maybe I'm reading too much into the whole thing but I can't help thinking it reeks of a conflict of interest, if not a REAL one then a PERCEIVED one.

Whether or not you break any laws is in no way the sole determinant of whether you should be in a job.

People say awful things and act like dicks all the time.

I'm not comfortable with undercover journalism like this, because I think that a lot of people would end up sacked if under such secret scrutiny.

^This.

Lets face it, the vast majority of said journo's are hardly as white as the driven snow!
I wonder how most of them would look if put into a 'sting' by some of their 'own'...?

You can't con an honest John.

They wouldn't have set this up (with all the expense incurred) on a whim, so they were likely tipped off that the England manager was a bit dodge. There may be more evidence to come or other info they have agreed to pass straight to the FA/Police if there is to be any criminal proceedings.

I'm sure they aren't the first paper to try and catch a high profile name out, BFS was just stupid and greedy enough to go for it

How did you feel about the MP's expenses expose? They did nuffin' illegal, either.

Getting the balance right between reporting what some bloke down the pub has said, or exposing a leading national figure as a cash-hungry morals for hire type, is the game.

Are you joking? Of course they did something illegal!

The majority were operating within the rules set by themselves which, when exposed to public scrutiny, were found to be lacking the oversight and due diligence that would apply in a real business. They weren't illegal activities, certainly immoral though.

Some however were out and out thieving and more should have been prosecuted than the handful that were.

Of course if Sam had said no idea about third party ownerships etc, that's illegal isn't it? The FA have sorted it and us as managers need to abide with that etc, that's what I tell players' agents etc this would never have even appeared on the Telegraph's pages/on the TV.

But he didn't.

Far too thick and greedy as he's always been ...

It wasn't a hard sting idea for the Telegraph to come up with given Sam's mentions in the press ten years ago. Now he is playing the sympathy card by blaming entrapment for his downfall. Pure hubris. He should go into politics, he'd fit right in.

I would hate for the drunken pub chats with my mates to be taped and scrutinized publicly.
If I was negotiating a business deal in the pub I would be extremely careful with my words and implications.
If I was England manager on £3M/year I wouldn't be in the bloody pub at all.

thick and greedy

Fair point, I'm actually glad he's gone for football reasons, and yes, thick and greedy seems to cover it :-/
