I thought Townsend had been fired?

If he hasn't, why not? I know ITV don't try too hard with football but I mean seriously it can't be hard to find someone better than that.
I thought that too, so disappointing to hear him once again.

Forgot about the game against Ireland, and preffered to watch Jurassic World instead this afternoon. Eng games are boring, with poor selection, poor performances, and I cannot stand football on ITV.

I thought everyone of the back four was terrible today, however the worst culprit was Cahill, he's dreadful he really is. He looks good for Chelsea because he's got Terry to bail him out.

Up to his goal Rooney was awful, he saved England and himself with that goal. I liked Henderson and Wilshere in midfield.

I do hope the Spurs fans enjoyed the Wilshere goals. biggrin

Agree on the defence - better teams will just carve us open on that showing. Jones' style just not suited to international football IMO - he goes to ground too often.
Thought we were wasteful going forward in the 1st half, but not a bad performance overall. Wilshire seems like a bit of a c*ck, but that was the best I've seen him play for a while.

Martin Keown said that if Ryan Bertrand went to Arsenal he'd be second choice behind Kieran Gibbs. Given Gibbs is in fact second choice behind Nacho Monreal, that would mean Bertrand would go from PFA Team of the Year to Arsenal third choice... Think Keown has headed one too many footballs! As for Jones starting in front of Clyne; that would mean, if Roy is correct, that LVG wouldn't need to buy him as he has a better right back already....time for a face plant!

Don't forget that at half time, Roy Hodgson preferred a defensive midfielder to go in at RB than play Clyne. This square pegs in round holes system rarely works.

Quote from Hodgson.

"Jordan Henderson did very well at right-back, we were thinking that we would be limiting our options if we replaced Phil Jones with another defender. It was harsh on Nathaniel Clyne, he doesn't deserve that, but it was the best way to get Adam Lallana on"

Also Jordan is not a defensive midfielder -

I really shouldn't get worked up about the England team as I know they have zero chance of winning anything with Hodgson in charge frown

Square pegs in round holes will never, ever, win anything.

Wilshere is not a DM. He's just not. His two goals came from him basically saying "fk it" and breaking forward.

Jones isn't a RB. I can't believe we are still trying to play him there.

Roy picking players that aren't even making their club teams is another baffling thing. I mean why is Townsend getting starts?!

Smalling has always been a headless chicken at the back, and Cahill only looks good with Terry and Ivanovic either side of him...so putting them both together is a disaster waiting to happen.

Yes I know they've won 6 in a row but does anyone think that these games are preparing the team for the big boys come the Euros?

Having seen hundreds of players who are great for their clubs but rubbish for England, it's rare to have one who is better for England than he is for his club!

He is an engine man, if you had him sitting you would be removing prob 80% from his game...reason he can play RB is he can get up and down as good as anyone

We all know Hodgson is at best, a mediocre manager/coach - but he wears the blazer and tie well, and that is after all the only thing that matters to the FA.

If fans want that to change - don't go to matches.
Quarter or half full Wembley's and an absence of travelling fans will be the only thing that the FA will take notice of....IMHO (maybe)

What are you on about?

I've been watching England for 30+ years and see very little difference between how we play now and anything I've seen before.

Great manager or not, we've won the last 6 competitive games he's been in charge of and are currently sat at the top of our qualifying group with a perfect record and a +15 goal difference. Why would the fans/FA want to change anything?

They won't change anything...they should have sacked him after our worst WC performance ever.

We are currently playing the dregs of European football and scraping through. Nothing will change when it comes to playing the big boys when it matters...in tournaments.

I've been watching England since 1966 and feel the same and I can remember the barren years of the 1970's when we didn't qualify for anything!
The only flicker of hope for a brighter future seemed to be the brief El Tel years, but the FA soon bottled that.....

As mentioned above, the FA should have sacked Hodgson after the abject WC fiasco, but as said, he wears the tie and blazer very well.

I'm sure we'll walk into the Euro group stage with a great record and will look very impressive - up to the first real match.

Apparently the latest FIFA ranking will show that you're almost as bad as Wales. Shame on you. wink
