Rooney scores in what should be a dull qualifier, but you never know with England

Never a penalty though was it..?

And that's never a proper ground or pitch either. Appalling.

are there rules as to the required quality of the pitch, looks like they are playing in a sandpit?

Surely Uefa have to look at a seeding system next time around.

By the look of it they need a grass seeding system.

Did you guys see that England are below Wales in the rankings? Hodgson doing a great job.

Winning every qualifying game is doing a bad job, is it? I'm not saying it's a brilliant job - the opposition has been poor and we haven't played that well - but it's certainly not a bad job.

Problem is we always do well in the qualifiers and under perform when the pressure is on. Rooney has been in terrible form for Man U recently but is basically undroppable

I cant recall Rooney playing well in an England shirt in any tournament. It's like watching him at half speed. No idea why he always disappoints when the tournaments start proper.

Rooney has been poor but he is the best England striker we have

Tongue in cheek post really but there's a valid point.

Hodgson is fine when expectations are low. England have strolled through a qualifying group with nobody in it. As soon as he comes up against decent opposition in a tournament he chokes.

Hodgson is a dinosaur. His team selection and tactics are well past their sell-by date. The FA in this country are an embarrassment. We could/should be doing so much better.

He scored a great goal, but was slow on the ball. Not snappy enough for me. Unfit?

In all fairness to Kane Pace has never been his strong point, but he will score goals.

As a striker I would have Kane and Sturridge ahead of Rooney.

I really don't think we could be doing any better. I watched the highlights of the Germany 5-1 game recently and it struck me how many absolute stars were in that team who failed to get anywhere internationally.

I think what we fail at is choosing our best XI and sticking with it so they gel and therefore play better. What's the point in Vardy and the like in the England XI? Yes they're decent and in form, but the quality will show through when it matters.
