I dont really see what Wilshere does that is so amazing? What does Jack do that offers more than any other CM?
He has the ability to go passed players and open the game up .. Dier, Hendo, Milner, Drinkwater, even really Barkley and Dier its not there game Black can man said:

Wilshere and 3 sub standard Liverpool players ahead of Drinkwater.
Some players look better than they actually are e.g. Henderson and llana when they play with much better foreign players like coutinho and firmino.
Total injustice.
Have to agree sir, I would have taken Townsend & Drinkwater ahead of , Sterling, Henderson, Wilshire & Milner , James fking Milner for goodness sake. Some players look better than they actually are e.g. Henderson and llana when they play with much better foreign players like coutinho and firmino.

Looking very likely the spuddies are going to be playing all the games.

Certainly not belittling Drinkwater's performances (I still think he should be in the squad) but England don't have a Kante in the midfield to play alongside him, which might explain why he has looked nowhere near his Leicester level in the couple of games he's played for England?
Err wasn't he awarded man of the match against the Netherlands? My point was more about suggesting he wasn't solely (or even largely) responsible for the excellent midfield cover that the Leicester defence enjoyed on their way to the title. I'd argue that for Leicester it was his passing that was more valuable to their success, with Kante doing the lion's share of the dirty work.
I'd have had Drinkwater in the starting eleven.
Granted he's not as good as Kante (who is) but he's had a fantastic season, has a winning mentality and showed no nerves in the run-in, so well suited to the big occasion. His style also fits well with the team allowing others (Barkley, Lallana, Ali) to burst forward but not averse to a defence splitting pass himself (and of course knows Vardy's runs inside out). 3 goals and 8 assists is very good for a defensive minded midfielder.
Hodgson is such a safety first manager with his ill deserved favourites (Rooney, Wilshere, Henderson, Milner) it's depressing. He'll keep doing the same steady thing and we'll keep getting knocked out early.
The old stalwarts have had their chances and regularly failed. Blood the very promising youngsters and have a go.

Ever think there is something a football manager looks for that is diff to us supporters - not many of us would have in 1st 11's yet manager after manager has picked him, City, England and Liverpool.
To be fair one thing that has impressed me this year is his contributions to goals, something like 22 this year, not many can say that .... 11 goals 11 assists or something similar ...not bad for a freebie

Basically, we are going to have to score - a lot. Because the first time we play anyone with a semblance of attacking threat, we are going to ship goals.
Personally, and I doubt this will get much support but I would have taken Carroll. As ugly as route-one footie is, at some point we are going to be chasing a game. I think that he's more likely to conjure up a goal and cause something to happen, than a like-for-like player such as Vardy, Sturridge or Rashford. If the oppo have contained our pacey forwards for 75mins, I can't see how swapping one for another is going to make much difference.
I don't think that Roy has left himself many options on the bench. Too many similar players who don't offer anything different to the starting 11.

How does a defensive winger out of interest contribute to 22 goals in his 1st yr ? Basically, we are going to have to score - a lot. Because the first time we play anyone with a semblance of attacking threat, we are going to ship goals.

OK so prem only 16 in 28 not a bad stat for just a defensive winger still?
Yeah it's allright, just squeezes into the top 20. It's nothing special though, is it? It's certainly a lot better than 1 goal & assist in 30 England games though. 5th best player at the tournament though, so I've no doubt he & Roy will prove me wrong.GloverMart said:
I think what has got my back up is the fact that Roy stressed in one of his press conferences that he would be taking players on form, not on reputation.
Yet he then picks Wilshere and Sterling above Drinkwater and Townsend. Drinkwater has been an 8/10 performer all season in the Premier League champions team and Townsend has come into form just at the right time.
Poor from Hodgson.
This. Also. Rashford will be quite good when he learns to kick with either foot.Yet he then picks Wilshere and Sterling above Drinkwater and Townsend. Drinkwater has been an 8/10 performer all season in the Premier League champions team and Townsend has come into form just at the right time.
