Never said he wasn't. Just think what he could have achieved if he combined his natural talent with the professionalism and work ethic of someone like Lampard. He could have been an all time world great. But he never even got close.
Yup.
Gazza was really just George Best all over again in so many ways. Very sad.

I rather like this calm, measured analysis of England's performance.

One name I haven't heard too much that might not be the worst option...Mark Hughes.

Plenty of experience in the Prem. Has done a pretty decent job at stoke, transforming them from long ball, route one merchants into a team that plays some decent stuff.

Granted he's Welsh but at least it's a British manager (if that is one of the key criteria).

I'm not bothered too much about the nationality of the new England manager just that he is competant to do the job.

Does anyone else get why we seem to be talking about people like Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce?

They've won pretty much fk all ever. I don't get it confused

Bobby Charlton was asked how he thought the England team of '66 would have fared against Iceland....'I think we'd have won 1-0..' he replied. 'Only 1-0...?!?' retorted the reporter. 'Yes' said Bobby...'most of us are in our 70's now!!..

Perhaps they can just borrow the whole Leicester team as and when anything important crops up.

I think he would get us "ok" results.

He'd drop people who needed to be dropped and we would have a system. We just need to play the players we have in the position they can play. Sturridge is not a right winger and Rooney is not a midfielder.

Big countries always seem to leave quality at home - because they have better players in THEIR position, as opposed to picking all the best forwards and having no wide men or centre halves.

It's not rocket science.

We were dead lucky against Cameroon and IIRC Spain had a legitimate goal ruled out incorrectly for offside before it went to pens. We truly are ste arent we ????
