Maybe it's time for Fat Sam after all? OK, we won't win anything, but he'll have us playing 4-4-2 effectively, the players will be fit and well drilled, anyoe with an ego will be on the first plane home, everyone will know their jobs, and we won't be getting beat by fking Iceland and conceding off a long throw that everyone watching knew was coming.

And when we do crash out of the tournament, the opposition will know they've been in a battle. Unlike Iceland, who probably didn't even have to wash their kit after the match.

You can't link the Mail and claim good read in the same sentence and expect to be taken seriously.

What do you think guys, who has survived from Euro 16?
From the English contingent? Maybe Mark Clattenburg and Martin Atkinson.

Gazza would be a good call for the manager, getting them a bit pissed pre-match and they will think they can take on anyone!(well it works for me at the weekends)
I've always found i've been a bit better pissed at,well, everything!Singing, pulling, playing guitar, driving motorcycle(on private tiny circuit at biker rally),playing any sport, fighting, god, the list just goes on and on! ;-)

I too feel sorry for Roy Hodgson. A fine and humble man yet sophisticated and with a great track record.
Wish you well, sir.
I don't know if that's sarcasm and we're all having a whoosh parrot moment or if you genuinely believe that.

He got paid a fortune, he picked on reputation and past achievements rather than on current form, and when it all went wrong he pulled out a pre-written resignation speech and then was forced to attend a press conference where it seemed he could barely conceal his contempt at being asked to attend.

For £4m/year or whatever he was paid I think it's fair to ask a few probing question and expect a little more in return than what was essentially the middle finger and a cheery wave as he jets off into retirement with his twelve million quid.

Everyone says he's a dignified and respectable man but after the way he acted in the 24 hours after the Iceland match I think many people will have precisely zero respect for the old sod.

yes especially as he knew he was slipping towards the exit so it was not as though he was disgruntled because it was all a shock. He was simply rude.

At least he had an eye for talent, telling Roberto Carlos he wasn't cut out to play full back rofl

The whole England set up is a farce and the FA is full of money men. Where are the football men that want us to actually do well and willing to do something about it.

Slightly controversial but as an ardent Gooner.
It's the spud link, far too many spud staff and players have made it into the England set up. It's not as if they've achieved much as a club, the prize seems to be go onto England jobs, perhaps they attend the right meetings and know the right people.....

Who's the next manager then? Please god not wenger....

I don't feel sorry for Roy at all, not one bit. He is a liar and a coward.

He lied by saying he wouldn't pick players for the squad on reputation but pick on form. So that's why the two best English CM's in the country were sat at home twiddling their thumbs; the most in form English winger, a real game changer was left behind and an experienced prolific striker was ignored completely. Noble, Drinkwater, Townsend and Defoe all should have gone; Wilshere, Henderson, Barkley and Sterling should have been on the beach.

And he's a coward. He can't get past Iceland, he sneaked past Wales with a stoppage time winner and had uninspiring draws v Russia and Slovakia. He had the top two scorers in the BPL but couldn't fit them together, his top scorer taking corners and he messed up his tactics, his substitutions and we were home early doors. Yet when it came to explaining his ludicrous decisions, he scuttled off after reading a long ago written resignation note without so much as a farewell then when finally called to account, he spluttered "I don't know why I'm here!".

Liar, coward and thank God he's history.
Spot on O Sage of Yeovil. It's the bizarre squad choices I can't get past........Jack Wilshere, seriously? Good young player if fully fit (has he ever been though?) but what was Hodgson thinking having him in the squad? Ditto Sterling, ditto Henderson. Harry Kane, free kick king NOT! He doesn't even take them at Spuds, does he? The whole thing was a bloody farce and Hodgson should hang his head in shame. But no, he seemed to suggest he was not accountable. And he resembles an owl that's just been to the dentist.

That's because we were seeded and played dross. Meaning that everyone had a false sense of our ability because we had a 100@% qualifing record. But we didn't play anyone good. We never play anyone good until the tournament and then it's too late to address any of the short comings. Playing Germany in q friendly doesn't tell you anything about your progress.

The best thing that could happen would be for England to stop being seeded in the qualifiers so we actually have some competitive games before a tournament. Or have Pre-qualifiers to cut down the weaker teams and have smaller, higher quality qualifying groups.

Had you asked me question before the tournament, my answer would have been the same; we've played no one good and the manager is a fraud - we'll get found out as soon as we play anyone half decent.

Who did you play that was half decent?

confused

Who did we play that was any good in the tournament? Russia, Wales, Slovakia & Iceland. Hardly a parade of Europe's finest.

They were clearly all good in relation to us! Wales are one of the top four teams in Europe, no?
