What do you expect, their FA's chief executive said himself he's not a football expert rofl

You know things are grim when you appoint Allardyce.

England are a laughing stock and now big sam has come in the journey to the bottom is nearly complete.
We lost to Iceland. Where exactly is the bottom? I kind of thought we'd arrived.

I believe he is the right man for the job.

He'll get the best out of the players, although he is a bit of a pie eating Northerner Big Sam was one of the first to embrace sports science. At Bolton he got the best out of a bunch of players by ensuring they were some of the strongest physically and mentally in the Premier League.

I don't doubt the ability of the England players as most perform well for their respective club sides week in week out. Ok there were a few exceptions that got into the England Squad this summer. However, when it comes to pulling on an England shirt our bunch of over paid prima donnas don't have the right mentality at all.

Will the football be attractive? Probably not, but I'd rather watch us win than thread 40 uninterrupted passes together and forget to shoot at goal or run out of ideas like we did this summer. Sam's in the results business and he generally gets the best out of players. At least we'll be organized, know the formation before the game and play some fast counter attacking football. I for one see this as a step forwards.

I've never been a fan of Sam but actually think this is the right choice.

We need less PC and shiny suits and more sleeve up and hard work.

I think he's as good as anyone in that regard.

Hopefully he won't play unfit 'stars' before in-form players.

Completely agree with this. Yes Fat Sam is a little uninspiring but he is still a good appointment and will always get the best out of players, will be organised and have a formation and tactics. Woy had neither of these and as the Euro's showed being organised will get you a lot further than the standard dross we churn out.

I'd be interested to to see who the people slagging Sam off would pick? We will never get a big manager. The England managers job is tarnished and often managers struggle in there careers after taking it. Who else is realistically available at the moment??
I would have tried to get Klinsmann but apart from that the cupboard is dry.

It's the best realistic appointment the FA could have made GIVEN that they prefer an English manager.
Except by all accounts he was only the FA's 2nd choice, after Wenger turned down the offer......

I don't support England but this is disgraceful appointment. Some numpty with no big club experience gets the biggest football management job in the country.

Let's hope they'll lose EVERY match that this idiot is in charge. Farce.
Good grief.

I hope he does well, only because it will put the noses of a lot of "experts" well out of joint. It will be a pleasure to watch.

To be fair the barrel is pretty empty. All the big managers in the PL are not interested. Way too much money and prestige in PL management for England to compete.

If you look around International football managers is there really anyone that is a standout candidate that you'd even look to poach?

Can anyone name the Portugal manager without looking it up?

The German guy is probably the most high profile and that's more for his games of scratch and sniff than anything else! wink

I've got no problem at all with this appointment, when he's had some decent players they've played good football while also being very organised and difficult to beat. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the players available to him.

Great appointment. Shapes his teams and tactics to the players, rather than square pegs in round holes and usually gets results above expectation.

Doesn't really matter who does it, you can't polish turds.

Saying that I'm delighted Hoddle didn't get it.

Klinsmann was great for Germany (despite living in America throughout), but he wasn't the sole reason of their success now, he's not even the sole person who kickstarted it.

There's no point in chasing the "xx" way of doing things, we've done that. It falls apart at the same points :

Premier league's conflict of interest
Players afraid to perform in tournament football.
The best youth talent not turning out for their age groups. (Stuart Pearce/Calvin Harris have an excellent podcast on tw*tsport about this, 56 eligable players turned down U21's for a game once, madness)

All power to Big Sam (I cant stand his football having watched it live a few times) lets continue to give our most experienced managers a chance. Just goes to show you how little European coaching experience we have outside of Hoddle/McClaren/Hodgson. I'd preferred to have given Harry a chance though, at least he's managed a club in Europe!

56 eligible players? That cant be right. If it is just shows players do not really want to play for their country.
