Insomnia is not a good thing....

So Rashford smashes three past the Norwegians then.

Is that the same Rashford who isn't playing regular football for his team?

The same Rashford who was the only England player who looked like he gave a st in France?

The same Rashford who The BFS didn't pick because he didn't have enough experience?

But don't worry, he is clearly just a flash in the pan, like that lad who was about the same age... What was he called?... On the tip of my tongue...... Michael something? And that saying "if you're good enough, you're old enough," is clearly just bks.

Forget me donning the tinfoil trilby about sponsors picking the team, it's beginning to look to me that the FA don't want us to go to Russia. What an utter fking mess.

I see Shilts having a good go at Rooney not being fit to be Captain on the back page of the Mirror this morning.

After watching Rashford, if SA starts the next game with Kane and Sterling, then something is definitely amiss somewhere.

And as for Rooney. You need to retire 'now' mate.

Shilton's a cock, Why would anyone be interested in what he has to say & it's going to make no difference to weather BFS selects Rooney or not.

Personally i'd like to see Rooney omitted from the the England squad , but if we qualify for the World cup which look highly likely then what more can we ask for ?

The next two World cups are going to be ste anyway. Thanks FIFA

It's a recent thing. Being a multi millionaire before your twentieth birthday alters your perspective on what's important.
If that's the issue, why doesn't it effect Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Holland and loads of other countries where the entire squad will be multi millionaires?
Can't remember who it was but some pundit compared the like of say Argentina. Their players are dotted all over Europe so when an international comes along it's an event to go home and get together as a group, plus of course they have the benefit of French/Spanish/Italian/English experience to draw from.

Whereas Englands players all play in England, play the same football against the same teams and the same players and live within an hour or so of Wembley, so there's no real bonding when they come together. Obviously Englands players are too st to play abroad, and there wouldn't be so much money so I'm not sure what the answer is.

But keep it up, at this rate we're going to beat you. And Scotland are really st.

Pure self interest. He's hoping if Rooney loses the captaincy, he'll quit England, and Shilts will stay as record cap holder. (for men anyway, Farah Williams is the England footballer with the most caps).

That's an interesting point.

Some countries just have more national pride. Look at the the Italians belting out their national anthem.

Then you have smaller countries like Croatia or Iceland with a really strong national identity of which they are proud of.

England fans seem to have these feelings, unfortunately the players do not.

Other countries seem to place some value on ensuring their young stars of the future get an education as well as their football education. How many times have we heard that players have quit school at the first possible opportunity to become footballers? They have given up on education by the time they are fourteen, and it shows.

That's because they have a good national anthem. And it's inclusive. All Italians can get behind it. Ours is st and the lyrics are alien to large sections of the population. I have tons of national pride but I haven't sung our national anthem since I was a child.

Smaller countries are wee Davids against Goliath, something to prove and something to stand for (or play for). The Irish, Welsh, even us Scots.

Trouble is for England they all think they've made it already, because they're wealthy and have been fed the 'premier league is the best in the world' lie by the media for their entire lives in most cases. Plus I don't really see any real national identity with England, compared with France, Italy or Wales. Maybe part of being the (dominant part of the) UK most of the time.

Probably the worst thing you ever did was win the WC. Even though it was massively rigged in your favour (every game at Wembley) it's been a noose round England's neck ever since.

Do you not also think there's an element of us not being allowed to be proud to be English? We don't have a national day. Flying the flag is frowned upon. Anyone who makes a success of themselves is to be shot down at any and all opportunities.

Our country is very strange at times.

How very true, if we fly the Cross of Saint George we get accused of jingoism or being racist BNP supporters. While our cousins in Scotland, Wales and Ireland happily fly their flags and have a piss-up on their saint's day. Most peculiar.

Subject for another thread. England have in past times punched so far above their weight it was getting boring, and good manners prevailed and we wound our necks back in. There's a wee bit more to it, but you get the drift.

If the FA wanted us to win the next WC they'd hire whoever they needed to lick a squad into shape - maybe even set the target at 12 years hence. We've seen what happens in cycling, rowing, sailing, latterly gym when you really pursue a goal with the resources anything is possible. Even in a wet country with no facilities.

But they've seemingly sold their soul. Short term thinking prevails, unable to see beyond a cup in two or four years' time. Pay lip service to the 'longterm' but keep everything in place to maximise the moolah. And don't upset the cashcow PL bosses who in turn play whatever game TV tells them.

We've done that. The Greg Dyke plan. We are due to win the Qatar WC in 2022. Believe it or not, there's a clock at St Georges Pk counting down to our victory! hehe

I don't care if it is self interest.....Rooney shouldn't be captain anyway, he's not exactly a leader....which is what you need as a captain. Having the most caps shouldn't define your right as a captain.
However, who should be captain is another matter entirely laugh

Apparently the new FA chairman Greg Clarke has scrapped the plan to win the 2022 World Cup and also said the clock countdown was a flawed idea. That's a good start from Clarke but I fear he will be "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!".

Didn't you read the memo?
England have an immensely strong squad of gifted players who could easily win the Euros & World Cup. It's just they aren't trying hard enough & the FA chose the wrong manager.

Again.

God Save The Queen.....that's brilliant for an atheist republican! Why can't we have an anthem like other countries, that talks about our rolling hills, lakes, vibrant cities and stuff. Of recounts the finest moments from our proud history. History and geography, something we can all get behind.

That, coupled to a decent "up and at 'em" tune like the Italian anthem, not the soporific dirge we have to suffer.
