The Telegraph should be closed down like the news of the world there was absolutely no need for this
I'm curious why people think this? I do get that our media seem to have an "interesting" way of treating people, but far as I know he wasn't chloroformed or kidnapped, he could very easily have said "Look I've just been given my dream job, the one I always wanted, I'm on £3m a year, I've got millions in the bank, I need to stay whiter than white so whatever the opportunity is I'm not interested thank you" and that would be that, no story.
But he didn't so here we are.
If only it had been possible for the FA to foresee what might happen before they appointed him

This wasn't a 1-off meeting where they offered him a paper bag of money.I do get that our media seem to have an "interesting" way of treating people, but far as I know he wasn't chloroformed or kidnapped, he could very easily have said "Look I've just been given my dream job, the one I always wanted, I'm on £3m a year, I've got millions in the bank, I need to stay whiter than white so whatever the opportunity is I'm not interested thank you" and that would be that, no story.

This was an operation set up over nearly a year to gain the trust of Sam and his entourage. He believed he was talking to people he could trust - and why not, they'd built this position over many months.
He wasn't taking money, he said he'd have to check with the FA before he did any (legitimate) work for them, but had a conversation about a loophole in the rulebook over transfers / agents etc.

I'm not sure that changes my view tbh. This was an operation set up over nearly a year to gain the trust of Sam and his entourage. He believed he was talking to people he could trust - and why not, they'd built this position over many months.

That means they were speaking to him before the England job came up. When it he got the job he could have easily decided there may just be a conflict of interest.
I get that it may look worse than it actually is, but again, no chloroform was used and if you're the FA you just don't need that whiff around you.
I also suspect there may be more to come hence the sudden departure, I may be wrong it just seems a bit of an odd story to run as a one-piece as a Tuesday story.
Whether Allardyce deserved to be set up or not, congratulations must go to the telegraph for making the England job seem even more toxic to any decent candidates than it already was.
Considering just how much of a poisoned chalice it was before, that really took some doing.
As I'm sure many others have already said, considering the crooked nature of the governing bodies of the sport, should we be surprised that anyone is above trying to feather their nest while they have the opportunity? The whole game is riddled with that attitude, from players making the most of their career before it all ends, to administrators taking their cut while immense amounts of money slosh round.
When managers can be sacked on a whim, I can empathise with them taking whatever they can get while they can get it.
