Southgate is the Trevor Brooking of his time.

But with memories of a penalty miss instead of that great goal that stuck in the stanchion, so he is even more st scared to rock the boat.

We'll see how serious he is when he picks his first squad. Will Rooney retain his captaincy? Will Rooney retain his place?

That's what I like to see that no nonsense Gareth Southgate putting his own mark on the team!!
Just when we thought it couldn't get any more boring with the England team they bring in Gareth Southgate to prove us all wrong.

laugh

I'm not even sure I can even summon up the enthusiasm to watch anymore - especially with Southgate now in charge.
It had waned enough after years of Capello and Woy, then BFS - now Southgate.
The FA have just become a joke as far as the England team are concerned.
I've got that 1970's feeling all over again laugh

I can't be arsed with the England team either anymore. I mistakenly thought Southgate might be a refreshing appointment given his work with the under-21's; maybe he'd give the youngsters a chance.

But oh no, his first deed is to tell a player who should not be anywhere near the England squad that he will be captain. Defies belief and logic.... heard somewhere that it is for continuity reasons. What rubbish!

No comments on Southgate's first squad?

Continuity rules okay although he has managed to outdo Roy for left field selections by picking Glen "Bloody" Johnson ahead of Nathaniel Clyne. Oh and Rooney's still captain as predicted.

Same old, same old.

Not defending the belter but Clyne has a tactical injury apparently.
