No good having someone that would pull off the whole team at half time...
Ah the good old Rodney Marsh & Alf Ramsey joke Sir Alf said, "Rodney, if you don't work hard I'm going to pull you off at half time." And I said: "Christ, at Man City all we get is a cup of tea and an orange."
England players whenever Daniel Sturridge has the ball......

They've brought on Rok Kronaveter now - I have no idea who he is but his name is worth a goal for them at least.
I'm sure he was winner on Robot Wars.Or one of these.
If Slovenia fans don't have a song for him, to the tune of Sade's Smooth Operator, then they shouldn't be going to bloody football.

We were discussing in the pub last night what a greedy he is. Link forwarded.
Yep, DS could have crossed it to Rooney near the end when he was on the right and in the box but he snatched at it trying to shoot,, I think. Now, right there is the difference with our players compared to the foreign players, they just have so much more composure than us lot, nice and calm, no rush rush panic panic, its all so desperate from us.
As someone said above, you may as well stick the under 21"s on, they would do so much better.
And I say it again, the managers that have been slaughtered in the past is bang out of order. Its the BLOODY PLYERS, they can't handle the pressure of the shirt...

Been saying that for ages & getting slated by the experts on here. And I say it again, the managers that have been slaughtered in the past is bang out of order. Its the BLOODY PLYERS, they can't handle the pressure of the shirt...
At least 10 years ago we looked able to compete on the international stage, albeit results in big tournaments were poor.
The current team look hopelessly inept by comparison. Just a lack of talent across the board. Our younger squad members don't even look like they've got the faintest hope of developing into decent international players. I have a feeling we just have to suck it up for the next 5 or 10 years & hope another crop of players emerge to fill the void.
It matters not a jot who manages this team. You could put Joachim Löw, Jose Mourinho or Louis Van Gaal in charge & they'd still struggle against Iceland or Slovenia.
81,871 was the attendance against Malta. I find that amazing.
England always struggle against teams that sit deep and pack the defence as all "smaller" teams do against a supposed stronger side. We have struggled all year to unpick this sort of defence which seems to involve a lot of tricksy faffing about on the edge of the area. It would have been good to bring on Andy Carroll with 20 minutes to go to try and go over it rather than through it or around it.

In many ways, that says so much about England as a national team, along with a fair proportion of the support. Problem is, precious little of that is particularly positive .England always struggle against teams that sit deep and pack the defence as all "smaller" teams do against a supposed stronger side. Not a dig at you as such, just a general view of things.

They should be playing like that anyway to a point. The last time England had a half decent team was 90-96 era, since then football has become more popular in this country but the quality of English players has diminished so trying to get England to play like Barcelona is a no-no. Stick a ball over the top for a Crouch or Carroll to head in, what we got to lose??

That was a pretty ordinary team. We were rubbish at the 90 WC, played 6 competitive games and were crap in 4 of them, but that gets forgotten as we somehow made the semis. We were garbage at the 92 Euros, finishing bottom of our group, scoring 1 goal in 3 matches. We didn't even qualify for the 94 WC because we were so crap and even the 96 Euros were not that great. We played brilliantly against Holland and well against Germany, but the rest, Switzerland, Scotland and Spain were mediocre performances. We've been so bad for so long that a side that stepped up to mediocrity is looked back on as some kind of wonder team.

Well I'd take just about any team from 1994-2012 over the festering pile of st that makes up our current squad. We've been so bad for so long that a side that stepped up to mediocrity is looked back on as some kind of wonder team.

I haven't really given a monkeys toss about England since then. I watch and hope but I don't get upset when we lose. I certainly haven't been to an England match post South Africa and unless I get asked on some hospitality gig, I never will again.
