Next England captain - who should it be?
Discussion
Personally I generally prefer Keepers/Central-Defenders being captains as their position on the pitch means they "see more" as everything is in front of them. Forwards/midfielders (apart from "holding central mids") tend to be moving faster and more "busy" so have enough to manage/deal with without being a captain as well. Also, good central defenders/keepers tend to be less hot headed.
For that reason alone, I don't think Rooney should be captain. Although calmed down in recent years, I still think he's too hot headed and moany to be a captain so may not command the appropriate respect, especially with referees.
Hart or Cahill for me.
That said, I don't know who is a natural leader in the changing room/training ground, they are often good candidates - I don't know if my suggestions above are these type of players....

Rooney and Hart being interviewed by the press after the Uruguay game.
Rooney stumbled over every other word which was "er" and trotted out a bunch of trite cliches.
Hart, by comparison, was coherent, eloquent and actually tried to answer the questions put to him.
Hart has less personal baggage too.
Of the two, Hart for me but then i'm not really convinced he should be the next captain as for me it has to be a club captain who is also international captain.

I agree with the central defender or defensive/holding midfielder over forward as captain. The defensive player sees far more and is generally more stable. There have been a few `keepers as captain, both club and country but personally I`m not a fan of the idea, I think they are too far from most of the action to be able to control situations, other than defensive ones. I don`t care where Rooney plays (rather he didn`t, given the choice), just don't give him the armband. Far too much of a liability for me. I would go with Cahill and Jagielka. Don`t think it matters whether they are club captain or not.
