Blimey, a thread about Yeovil!! eekhehe

I'm not sure to be honest, Mark. I know he went to Swansea on Monday night to sign up a couple of fringe first teamers on loan deals but for some reason, either the manager couldn't get hold of the chairman or the chairman said No. My thoughts are for the former; the chairman was away in Tenerife at the time but why he apparently went there on TDD is anyone's guess.

They had a meeting on Friday to clear the air and seems to have done the trick with the team winning 3-1 at Bradford yesterday. They can have a row every week if they end up with three points on a Saturday.

Tisdale has been linked with the job a few times but his stock appears to be shrinking, maybe he should have left Exeter a few years ago for the sake of his career.

His career is now an invisible dot on an invisible dot. Should have left when he had the interview with Pompey last year as he clearly has had no interest in the team that pays his fking massive wages ever since then.

Hopefully he'll end up going back to being a PE teacher.

Not a fan then? hehe

Weird though how things change in football. Didn't he have six or seven promotions in ten years but Exeter have only gone back one division (almost two!)? Saw him linked with a few jobs but how on earth does he rebuild that reputation by staying with you? Not sure he can, maybe a move would be best for all parties.

Not sure how long you go back with City but my best mate used to write and edit "Exe Directory" and I came down to watch City several times in their 1989-90 Fourth Division Championship winning season. Great atmosphere in the Cowshed in those days and that was a bloody good team which I can remember lots of without looking (Miller, Hiley, McNichol, Taylor, Vinnicombe, Rowbotham, Neville, Bailey, Young... what a team!).

Vinnicombe and Rowbotham, blimey there's two names from the past. We were good then...

As for now, well I was at Wembley when we beat Cambridge to come back up to the proper leagues in the play off final and have never been prouder of my team. Tisdale was going to go all the way then.

But now the situation is ridiculous, we caved in to his massive wage demands a few seasons ago and we are stuck with him. I wouldn't mind so much if he cared but he quite clearly doesn't. He needs to go.

Not much Yeovil action on this thread now!

No, that was may fault for dragging it off topic. Anyhow, Gary Johnson has another meeting with the board today so hopefully the subject (and this thread) will be able to be left to fade away after today.

Who were the fringe players at the Swans you were trying to sign?

I've not been told their names, just that they were fringe players on the verge of the first team. As the deal still isn't dead (as the loan window is/has reopened), I wouldn't be told until the day the contract had been signed.

Mart - have you seen we have loaned you one of our youngsters? A right back called Liam Shephard.

He has looked a very decent prospect in the U21 setup - very quick and good going forward, albeit still a bit wet behind the ears defensively. Hopefully this will be a great experience for him. Let me know your thoughts if he gets any game time.

Hi Legend... wavey

Yes, news came through on Saturday morning that we had taken him on. He's the fifth loan we have in the building and a few fans were a little surprised we didn't use that to get a centre back in as we are desperate for one.

I'll share thoughts for sure. He'll be at right back for us, my boss says he's a nice lad from what he's seen. Our technical coach (assistant to the assistant manager) played with Garry Monk at Swansea a few years back so there's the connection and GM seems like a decent bloke, wouldn't pass on a dud.

A shame. frown I hope the absolute gubbing at the hands of the mighty Manchester United didn't play a part.

Sad day at Huish Park but seemingly inevitable.

Thought something was up at lunchtime. Was writing my programme column when I got a text saying "Hold fire for a moment!". Started thinking up reasons why that might be and his sacking was one of the first I thought of. News then confirmed about half an hour before it went public.

I've got mixed feelings really. In his two spells spanning seven years, he was won the FA Trophy, the Conference title by seventeen points, the League Two title pipping Swansea to top spot and getting out of League One via the playoff final. But he has had an awful eighteen months since then... although most people expected us to get relegated last season, we should have been more competitive this season and not staring a second relegation in the face.

Seven years equals four trophies including three promotions. He's one of the nicest blokes I've ever met in football and hopefully, I'll get chance to say goodbye in the next day or two. Some of our fans had taken to abusing him at matches calling him really nasty names simply because we were struggling on the pitch. I'll try to forget that and remember that, though ultimately quite well rewarded, a man of nearly sixty years old is looking for a job tonight.

I've always thought that if you're a manager of a team that is in it's right division for it's size and recent history, the best way to keep your job is to narrowly miss out on promotion. If QPR had lost the play off final, Redknapp would still be manager and they challenged for promotion this season. Nigel pearson wouldn't be under pressure at Leicester is they missed out last season and were near the top this season, and Burnley will probably sack their man if they go down.

With respect to Yeovil, it's a League 1 club at most, maybe League 2. If they'd cemented their position in L1 and were hovering around 7-8th place, everyone would be happy. But getting promoted to the Championship was a disaster for the manager. Mourinho couldn't have kept them up and now they are struggling in L1. The fans have completely forgotten how happy they were to get into L2 in the first place!!!!

Not a dig at Yeovil, same at my club. If Chelsea don't win the league this year I'll be livid. But a few years ago I was breathing a sign of relief when we got 40 points.

Bournemouth will be an example. If they miss out on promotion, the manager's job will be safe. They've had a great season. If he continues to stay in the top half of the Championship he can probably have a job there until he decides he wants to move on.

But mark my words, if they go up, he'll be gone by the end of 2015. They will be rock bottom by Xmas. The usual platitude will be "he's done a great job, but he's taken us as far as he can". The truth is, he'll have taken you as far as anyone can, because baring a billionaire investor, Bournemouth are not a PL club. They will get relegated, the replacement manager will get sacked, the club will go into decline and in a few years they'll be in L1 and flirting with the drop to L2.

There are a few exceptions, like Nigel Atkinson getting the push from Southampton. Potticino did move them on and Koeman has improved it further, but by and large, what I said applies in 90% of cases.

Agree totally. I'll never understand why a manager who gets a team promoted (a mean feat in itself in a highly competitive league) then gets the boot two months into the next season simply because they are not doing well. Madness.

Mart - another two of our promising youngsters on their way down the M5 to you.

Josh Sheehan is a very highly rated central midfielder who scored this against Cardiff u-19s last March https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYiCh1VadVo.

Stephen Kingsley is a solid pacey left back who, at 20, already had 100 first team appearances for Falkirk under his belt before we signed him. Played u18/19 international level.

Let me know how they get on.

I gather Liam Shepherd isn't helping to shore up your defence much? wink
