Agreed. If Maradona had been a slim 6'3 like Ronaldo and not a barrel chested 5'6, Christ knows what he would have been like.
He had it all...

In my opinion he would’ve been worse.

A genius is a genius, to try and change him would be to jeopardise losing what made him.

He smoke, he drank, he womanised, he took drugs.

Take that away and I’d offer that he would not have been as good because you’d be attempting to change his very DNA.

Just my opinion.
You think he'd have been a worse footballer if he didn't smoke and drink?

He'd certainly have been worse in the 94 World Cup period if you took away his (performance enhancing) drugs, possibly in other periods if he also took them then.

There's a reason why I didn't say drugs (well, alcohol is a drug but you get my point!).

Very very much doubt this tbh. When he was at his best I think that - at a stretch - might have been the case, but he is a long way off the player he was 5 years ago.

In the Euros he largely strolled around. Still deadly in front of goal yes, but not the lighting fast player who terrorised defences of old.
Top scorer in Serie A last season with 5 more than 90 million Lukaku, in less games, and top goal scorer in the Euros. But yeah, he’s well past it.

Ive been lucky enough to see them both play a number of times both great players undoubtedly, in terms of the best though its messi without a shadow of a doubt he just has something that cant be coached, cant be trained he's a freak and has talent Ronaldo could only dream of.

Where Ronaldo does have one over messi is balls and self confidence which i admire greatly. To come back to the Prem at this time in his life shows that, personally im not convinced it'll a massive success but the fact hes man enough to take on the challenge where Messi has just copped out by going to a no mark club in a no mark league says a lot about the character of both.
Agree Messi is the better player. Ronaldo better at dead balls, heading and is more of a force of nature personality-wise, as you're implying.

Personally I think Ronaldo is well past it and it won't make much difference to Man U one way or another, though is a great factor making this season more interesting. Can't see Man U being close to the title tbh.
Ronaldo better than Messi at dead balls? You’re having a laugh …

Ronaldo is a great player and a great athlete but he’s not a genius like Messi.

He is past it. Did you watch the Euro games? I completely agree he can still stick the ball away as well as anyone if he gets a chance, but he was a long way short of the player of 5 or 10 years ago. Far, far less movement.

We'll wait and see. I think he'll do decently well, and score quite a few goals, and some great ones. But Man Utd are going to be nowhere near the title.

Chelsea - much stronger now than under Lampard
Man City - about the same as last season
Liverpool - Anfield and VVD back, though team maybe a bit tired

All 3 will finish above Man U, who I think will be in the mix with Spurs and Leicester for 4th.

United aren't going to challenge for the title this season, I think we as fans know that and accept it. But we're getting closer and Ronaldo's presence alone will lift the players in the squad. He's not the player he was 5 years ago no, but he's a number 9 and scores goals. Lots of them.

I'm just laughing at the chanting in that video, as a Lazio fan.

Golden boot in Serie A beating a player 8 years younger than him by five goals and golden boot in the Euros.
Yes definitely past it.

Agreed. That's what I mean by "past it" ... well past his best. He's still a great player and one of the best in the world.

Trying to take sentiment out of the equation.

How many minutes will he get today?

Will he score?

I’m saying 40 and yes 1.

It’s Ronaldo. He wants to play every minute of every game. Would be shocked if he doesn’t start and play most of the game.

I read it's not being televised in the UK, as the TV companies already decided prior on what they were showing.
