So he's out of contract, not training and hasn't played at a reasonable level for over two years. What do we reckon half a season in Ireland or similar before a move back to English football?

I think he'll be in league one or two by New Year.

not looking good for Evans getting his start with Oldham,

20000 people have signed a petition against the club signing him.

it does irk me though, due to the circumstances in which he was convicted, theres a certain degree of hysteria surrounding the whole case which leaves a nasty taste in the mouth for me, and imo a big part of the backlash against Evans is being fanned by the media.

as a football fan(Patrick Thistle) i would happily have him playing for my team regardless of his convictions, time served etc. granted i wouldn't leave him alone with my wife but i would much rather see him back playing and contributing to society paying taxes than throwing him on the scrapheap

I agree. He should be left to play imo. The circumstances of the case and his conviction, whilst not entirely savoury, also don't deserve him being labelled ZOMGRAPISST either.

the whole case is a mess.

now granted evidence available on the web is not going to be as reliable as that presented to a court but if half the facts listed are true i would say his conviction was shaky in the first place.

on a sidenote to the evans case why is it the case that a man has to obtain consent, why does a woman not have to also obtain consent?

I've said it before but what makes me uncomfortable about the case is the acquittal of the other guy, and the judge in his summing up justifying Evans' conviction with words to the effect of 'she wasn't in a state to give consent'.

Either she was, or she wasn't. Can't have it both ways. I don't agree with 'implied consent' based on her walking back to the hotel with the other bloke either.

Frankly I think this all stems from them both leaving the room before she woke up.

So Oldham get on average 4000 attendance per week and 20,000 have signed a petition about him joining their club? I wonder what % of those who signed also signed the Sheffield Utd one, and will sign every single petition??

Not really a true reflection of Oldham's fans.

I agree. Both petitions were started by the same London-based radical feminist who has a very large twitter presence.

Especially when none of the fans actually turned up to the ground today to protest in person.

The only person being harassed is the woman who has just had to move for the 6th time....

I was thinking the same. Anyone have any news about his appeal? Is it still going or did he drop it?

Investigation/review is under way apparently.

It is unfortunate, I believe that situation is as a result of the ambiguity of this case. There are an awful lot of people who do not believe a rape conviction was just in this case.

and whoever is doing that needs to be banged up - as regards matey boy AIUI he's pretty much snookered as he is not allowed to play abroad for the next 2 years or so....
