What I want to know is, how the hell are they going to fit his name according to the press onto the back of his shirt? 'Convicted Rapist Ched Evans' is a hell of a lot of shirt space.
I know eh!! It's bonkers, everyone is at it.Hilts said:
There's a bit more to it than that.
It's actually quite restrictive in practice.
Yes but I'm talking about it through my eyes. I don't agree with prison in most cases - I think rehabilitation should be key. Ultimately when you leave prison you get a chance to rebuild your life and turn into the person you chose to be (idealistic to the extreme I know) so I think that constantly reminding someone that they havnt finished their sentence is unhelpful and unfair. It's actually quite restrictive in practice.
What's more - if we truly take that view, it means that those given a life sentence can never be rehabilitated. Which is a huge waste of life.

Once again you don't give an argument in return you just disagree... . An interesting tactic but one that doesn't exactly make debate easy.
I suppose because ultimately I'm not too fussed, but think the right thing has happened overall. And I'm not here to try and change anyone's mind on the matter. I had a good chat about it with a mate before, and erm, that's it.edit, I also don't wanna get to embroiled in a labyrinthine debate on it! As you said, you see it from your POV, and me from mine.

Evans has chanced his arm, and come up short.
He hasn't 'chanced his arm' - this implies he took risky punt at something and couldn't manage it. This was not the case as it was external factors that prevented him playing for Oldham. Based on the fact other footballers have been re hired by clubs I'd say the 'risk' was minimal. What's prevented him from playing isn't even threats against him, it's threats of a financial nature to those who would hire him.Halb said:
Yes he has, he has expected to walk straight back into the old job. It was a risky punt, evidence by what has happened, what occurred at Sheffield should have been enough to even the most blinkered, but turns out it wasn't.
Uh-huh.The risk you speak of that Evans should have been aware of occurred after he tried to get 'the old job' back! How on earth you think Evans could have foreseen the furore that has ensued? Have other footballers convicted of rape tried to work again at Sheffield but been barred through action instigated on social media?Edited by Halb on Friday 9th January 23:53

The whole affair says a lot about some people's attitude towards women and sex. This saga really seams to be dragging on now. Sportsman have done worse and returned to their profession. Someone will give him a chance, their will be a massive storm for about 2 weeks, before dying off.
If he did it, then he's served the sentence handed to him, and has been given the oppatunity to continue his life by the prison.
If he didn't do it, then his life is being ruined.

Being a Blade to the soles of my feet, I loved watching the Sheffield United that included Ched Evans scoring 35 goals at will and seemingly guaranteeing us promotion in 2011-2012. When the accusations of rape and subsequent trail occurred, I for one thought that because he was in the public eye and because his game may suffer then he should have been advised to not play until after the trail, which after looking at the reported evidence was confident he would come away found not guilty.
It was a surprising decision to say the least to see that he had been found guilty , but as such Evans then needed to accept his fate and follow due process to try and win his appeal and clear his name if as he says he is innocent of all these crimes. Many fans of The Blades wanted to keep him on our books but rightly so the Blades terminated his contract, his immediate appeal was turned down I believe and at that time he and his advisors went the wrong way.
He should have been advised that if he maintains his innocence, and fight his appeal to the very last, he cannot go back at a later date and show remorse or be contrite for the actions he was convicted for and he cannot , and this is the game changer for me he cannot hope or expect to be a highly paid in the public eye and act as a role model professional footballer until he has cleared his name, so if he maintains his innocence and does clear his name, welcome back, if he doesn't clear his name and cannot then show remorse and by default get out the game or go abroad somewhere after his on licence has expired.

Maybe pointed out elsewhere but I think you'll find you're got something very wrong there. The only time I have ever been embarrassed as a West Ham fan is when nearly half of our away support started hissing at White Hart Lane. Normally it is just a core of about 20-25 dheads at away games but this was something else and a rarity.
Most fans that go to matches are hard working, normal people. People cheering on Ched Evans wouldn't be cheering on a rapist, they would be cheering the work he does for the team. I hope he gets a new contract sorted ASAP.

How could anyone identify her from that?
