Just to clarify, my quote is as per my original post. For some reason XM5ER quoted it and appears to have changed it. All very strange.

I never said anything about Pakistanis and curries.
I changed it to highlight the fact that making sweeping generalisations about groups of people has unfortunate equivalences.
Well what a completely tttish thing to do. There's a world of difference between making generalisations about footballers as a group to making generalisations about Pakistanis.

It gives the impression that I'm a racist, which I'm not. I think most footballers are poor role models, regardless of their colour or creed.

And I apologise to Leroy, as I can now see how he formed his incorrect impression.
It stings when somebody points something out that you hadn't thought about before, doesn't it? Maybe I should have used a Jewish analogy instead, perhaps a more similar group of much maligned people.

The point is, you don't know "most footballers", you know the headline grabbing wkers that can't control themselves. I know three guys personally that I would hold up as outstanding role models for my kids (I will go into more detail if you like, if you'd be willing to put your prejudice on one side for a moment), consequently my world view of footballers is different to yours.

For me, it's not that they're all dicks, it's just that they and professional sportsmen in general cannot be reasonably expected to be better than the general population given the attributes necessary for their careers and the circumstances they are put in. Which isn't to say that we should accept them behaving badly, just that expecting them to be exemplary is unreasonable.
Very good post, very much agree with that.

For some reason footballers are fair game to slag off, I just think it's a crap attitude to have.

Twigs original post does make a very valid point however, footballers should not be expected to behave like role models, they're just really F'ing good at football is all.

Try to play football like Giggs kids, moral guidance? look elsewhere hehe

Maybe you should have just argued your case instead of altering my post, and then I might have taken you seriously. As it is, you've just made yourself look like a complete tool.

Definition of a complete tool (in my world):

Someone who misquotes and thus lies about what someone else has said because they're too fking thick to argue their case on it's own merits.

This!!!

If your child has a footballer as a role model, you need to be a better parent.

My kids, when they were younger, admired footballers for their ability to play football. But I made them well aware that they were, on the whole, fking idiots. And often not very nice human beings.
Let me just remind you of what you said.

Oh stop playing the offended special snowflake and pretending that what you said wasn't pure bigotry.

X5MER, you edited someone's post to make them look racist. That's totally out of order.

No I didn't I quoted them and edited for accuracy. It's not half as out of order as calling a group of people fking idiots just because he doesn't like them. Bigotry is bigotry whether it's based on race, religion, class or cash.

So you think it's ok to misrepresent what someone said to suit your own agenda?

I have to ask this, as I don't know the answer not being into football or otherwise.

Do you believe that the most footballers are well educated, intelligent, erudite individuals.

Please use the behaviour towards Matt le tissier (sp) and Graeme le soux in your answer please ( gay for reading the guardian or having a degree). Extra marks will be given for quotes from Wayne Rooney, where he uses quotes from Plato, Freud or Goethe

I'm not a mod, I didn't edit his post.
It's the football section of said car website, he came out with some prejudiced bullst, I called him out on it. There is no social football justice warrior agenda here. Why have you got your knickers in a twist about it? Do you hate all footballers too?

I have no animosity towards footballers, I was "semi-professional" at one stage. But if you can't see that changing someones post and making them look racist is wrong, then the issue is with you, not me.

you quoted his post and changed the words. They remained attributed to him within your post.

For quite a while I presumed he had typed those words.

But now you have accepted you were out of order there isn't really a need to apologise.
