Agree on the big name thing. However, if that article above is to be believed, Ings has a 38% strike rate - same as Borini and less then Lambert and Balotelli. And only a few months experience in the top flight. It would be a big gamble.
Agreed. But a gamble I would be prepared to take, considering his age, player profile and the fact we could get him relatively cheap, why not?! If it doesn't work selling him on for a larger sum shouldn't be a problem.

How? They reckon it might take 10m to get him now (for the Summer). If he flops we wouldn't recoup that. I agree he might well be worth the risk but signing like that as a main forward is not what we need right now. Maybe BR/FSG/TC have already decided to gamble on Sturridge staying fit and scoring from now until May. Very risky policy.

Where you heard 10m? he is out of contract in the summer , would be a nominal fee

That's what I was thinking and on that basis, he's worth a shot. If it doesn't work out, it will be little/no loss for Liverpool monetary wise.

A just punishment for a worthy scumbag, however I'd have preferred the ref to have spotted it and had them down to 10 men.

Could have sworn that's what I read in the Echo pros and cons article - must have imagined it, its not in there. Well for 3m then, probably yes - recoupable regardless.

If he is £3m, scrap what I said this morning and sign him up.

How do offload problems like Borini and Balotelli come the summer though? Borini still thinks he can make it at Liverpool and Balotelli, well, I imagine most teams will want him on loan only. Unless they are willing to take a huge loss and let him go for around half or worse, less than half.

Apparently any such move would be illegal:

Burnley FC Website said:
Following growing media speculation, Burnley Football Club would like to reiterate their stance regarding striker Danny Ings.

Ings has been heavily linked in the past 24 hours with a permanent move to Liverpool, with the suggestion that he would then be loaned back to the club for the remainder of the campaign.

This kind of deal is prohibited by the Premier League under rule V7 which states that a player cannot be purchased and loaned back between Premier League clubs in the same transfer window.

Chief Executive Lee Hoos said: “This type of move would violate Premier League rule V7 regarding transfers so simply cannot happen.

“This is the last time we will be making any comment regarding the player’s future.

“Over the course of the window, the player himself, Sean Dyche and the chairman have made it clear he won’t be going anywhere and we consider that the end of the matter.”
That's that then.

You'd think journos would understand the rules before making up stupid stories...

Good good.

And there was I thinking we were setting up an acrimonious transfer saga, lowballing Burnley to the point of insulting them, before Levy steps in with an extra 3m at 10pm Monday night.

if Ben Smith and James Pearce are reporting this - then Liverpool have been seriously interested

Would not be shocked if we bid 3-5m before tmrw

Surely you're just buying the player, not the town itself?

Specifically, I meant the bit of the story about him being loaned back. Clearly that's a non starter. And yes, they shouldn't stick things in stories that can patently not happen. Otherwise they may as well start transfer stories all through the season - eg "Ronaldo is close to signing for Utd and could appear on Saturday for them" when its mid October...
