Usually when we lose i'm left with a hangover the day later.
Why aren't I?
Well, it would have been nice to go to another European away this season but could we have won the Europa League? No.
Would playing on a Saturday, Thursday, Sunday benefitted us in the future? No.

So on the whole i'm not gutted we went out last night.

Players and the side that started last night.
The 3 CBs. Kolo, Skrtel, Lovren. Have they started together this season? I don't think they have and I think that showed last night.
Two wing backs. Ibe had a really tough game last night. Overall he had a tough game, just hasn't been effective as he is when he has played. Tiredness? That he hadn't played with Kolo before? That
Can and Allen. Hadn't played before. If Allen is the quiet CDM that gets along with things what was Can's job last night? Both seemed like two CDMs together trying to bolster the defence of our team, when what they did do was not provide an ounce of attack to the side, which ultimately failed us.

Sterling, Balotelli, Sturridge.
Balotelli isn't a Liverpool player from the off. Impact sub yes to bring a different game. Starting off with him, have him hold the ball up and getting easy free kicks from his theatrical ways then ok, he brings something in the dying minutes. Doesn't show nothing though if we want a bull blown, pacey attack.

Sturridge looked shattered. Looked like he thought he had to do everything himself. Or is that just his natural instinct? Thinks he can do everything?

Sterling, didn't really do much. Without another midfielder attacking with him to add to the attack of Sterling Balo and Sturridge he was just running into players. Hitting a brick wall every time.

Sturridge and Balotelli look like a pair of divas when things aren't goig there way. They aren't natural leaders who can lift their spirits of players when st hits he fan or we constantly can't get a breakthrough.

Just hope Coutinho and Henderson play on Sunday. Probably would keep Allen in the side. Can back to RCB even though he has been quite shakey lately and City will be a test of just how good he actually is.

Season seems to be falling apart. We simply are not creating any genuine chances.
Despite all those wins recently. Tsk.
Forget about them though, they're not important any more.
What you on about? We're easily beaten by some Turkish no marks and fail again in Europe. We are also 6th in the league and need a result against the Champions just to keep touch with top 4. Its the full picture over the course of a season that is important.
If you are directing that at me, don't bother.
I've got no interest in engaging with you.
Well that usually means don't quote me. Of course the bit I wrote is painfully accurate. Maybe thats the real issue here....

WTF. Season falling apart .. Get a grip man.. We have several injuries.. We've had quite a few games the last 3 weeks .. we lose a game and suddenly it's all falling apart.. Look at the big picture rather than just constantly look for negativity, why is your glass always half empty????
Agreed, you have to be realistic RT,. have Fa cup finals and top 4 finishes been the norm the last 5 years, sadly no.

BR is still a young coach, and yes got it wrong last night, he struggled in europe, and needs to improve tactically. So many changes to the side, many enforced by injury and the need to give a few players a rest meant it was a disjointed performance.

The season still offers plenty, and top 4 isn't way off the question when 2 months ago we looked a mile away. Yes we should never have been in that position but th squad needed an overhaul and it was always going to time for players to settle in

Can't say i'm surprised we're out after seeing the lineup. Having just over 48 hours until playing the champions is a big factor in that i'm sure - shameful scheduling just so the mickey mouse cup can be played at 4pm on it's own.

As soon as I saw the ball rocking back and fore on the penalty spot after Lovren had placed it I knew he was going to miss - but what other options were there? Moreno is the only one I can think of who should probably be in front of him in the order. Sterling struggles to kick a ball 12 yards & the remainder were defenders.

Anyway onwards & upwards, maybe we surprise City

I agree with all of that if I'm honest. Apart from last season's blip we've been a mid table team.

The City game is huge for us. We have to get something, probably a win, to stay in contention for top 4 finish.

I have no understanding of why he picked a front 2 of Mario and Sturridge in an away game and lost control of the midfield. Or why he decided to introduce 2 new defenders in to the back 3.

Sack the board.

This proves that everything you post on here is an attempt to get a rise from other LFC fans. You're a bigger WUM than even the spurs fans!

It allowed Can to move into the middle as we are missing SG/JH and Lucas, plus Sakho so Lovren and Toure are the right choice.

Ha ha sack the manager sack the board sack the team lol ... The contradictions are incredible... A certain person has been bleating about playing Lovren and moving Cann into midfield for weeks , yet the moment he does and it doesn't work it is suddenly a stupid thing to do! Liverpool have always attracted some strange fans but I think we have a winner.

Not start with Mario and Sturridge away in Europe when we needed to defend rather than at home to Villa or something. Not the same mate and you know it.

As for moving Cann forward. Yes I've wanted to see this but then not at the expense of 2 new centre backs brought in to the back 3 and then not have Cann play next to Joe Allen.

Neither were the right choices and the risks were there for most to see before a ball had been kicked. I'm not sure how you can disagree with this. We played the wrong team/tactics and we got knocked out of a competition. Maybe BR will learn from it, maybe he won't, but this morning the only route to success (and that means Champions League qualification) is to get top 4. That starts with needing a result on Sunday, with a team that is waking up knowing that they were beaten over 120 minutes.

Rodgers obviously thought Balo, Sturridge and Sterling were enough fire power up top.
Thought we'd be able to get an away goal and be able to keep the clean sheet with both Can and Allen in midfield.
I'll be honest, with how ste Besiktas were at Anfield I thought we would go the Attaturk with the line up yday and beat them.

There was just no player in the middle of the park last night getting it from the CBs and spraying it across the park, to the wingbacks or the strikers infront of him. We had no control over midfield whatsoever.

When Lallana came on you automatically seen him in the middle of the pitch trying to link up the defence with the attack.

We just didn't do enough to go through, we only needed a goal when they were 1-0 up yet we never looked like scoring, up until Lovren stepped up I thought the penalties were good from both sides and agree with what others have said that you could tell Lovren was going to miss.

Sometimes you don't have to win to win. Thought he'd learn from the Chelsea game last season.

Rodgers added: “We didn’t come to lose, we came to win.

Maybe why he started with 2 strikers.

Anyway, time to move on. Hopefully Sturridge is fit for Sunday and Coutinho, Henderson and Sakho come back in, maybe even Lucas.

RT - For me you have let yourself down here - at least 10 posts after a defeat on penalties - we have beat Spurs and Southampton and you make about 4 posts in total

Our target this year was top 4 and a cup (preferably) the FA CUP - WE ARE 3 POINTS behind 3rd - yes 3 not 8 and this weekends game v City is anything but a decider for top 4
Are you saying if we lose to City that's it gone? have you looked at the other teams fixtures - complete balls tbh we can afford to drop points this weekend (loss would hurt, draw be ok) but even if we lose we are still well in this fight for top 4.
We are the 2nd most inform team in EUROPE since December yet its all going wrong? come on

We had 5 1st teamers out last night and it hurt us - we had no option but to play can and allen in midfield - who else would you have played next to Allen?
Yes were out, yes it would have been nice to win it but you need to remember we are still on target for what would have been a brilliant season

Its quite obvious we are not a mid table team - yes look at the league we are 6th - but why not just accept he fked up at the start of the season and since then has corrected his errors and are now a top 4 team....
