This is all getting a bit déjà vu - this exact time last year we were talking about selling star players, having a clear out, big transfer budgets, fabulous new players who have had one good season and are now worth loads a money, what positions we need, how much for each player we could sell.

We've seen that large wholesale changes aren't a good thing.
Agreed.

1) Don't touch the defence apart from possibly a replacement RB if GJ leaves
2) Combative midfielder who can mix it up a bit when needed (the opposite to Joe Allen if you like)
3) As much quality as we can afford up front to play in the 37 of the 38 games DS will miss
4) Upgrades on the fringe players hopefully leaving (Borini, Aspas, Toure, Lambert etc)

Lining up something like this in a 4-2-1-3 at home:

Mingo
New-Skrtel-Sakho-Moreno
New-Hendo
Coutinho
Sturridge-New-Sterling

Second string being:
Jones
Manquillo-Toure(New)-Lovren-Flanno
Lucas-Allen
Lallana
Ibe-Origi(Balotelli)-Markovic

have to agree with the above, we don't need wholesale changes and 10 average players, we need 3/4 top class players

Team for next season also depends on whether he carries on with 3 at the back or 4.
Emre Can - where will he play next season?

This is brilliant - and all other clubs should take note - a price freeze is just not good enough, £59 to watch us v Newcastle is a joke
I wouldn't give them to much credit it was either that or play in front of a half empty stadium every week.

Nope but if a top quality RB was available I would still be in for him.

After so long out I would imagine he'd need to prove himself all over again. Hopefully he will.

Clear out is needed, and is more a few of the fringe players/ older ones. No big loses in terms of performances from this season.

Difference from last season is we have quite a few more younger talent squad players now to cover for injuries and try and develop. Now we need to have a few experienced guys to help lead the younger ones and help change the potential into proper talent, from what I seen in the rumours BR agrees and is pushing for this too. Just remains to be seen if FSG support this. If they don't I can see next season being Rodgers last - no decent striker next season and it's 5th again I think.

^^^ exactly this. Karren Brady has a column in the Standard tonight which is a complete load of guff. She must think we're all fking idiots if we can't see what the real motivation is. So much for being a good egg, suggesting a sense of fairness and wishing to convey a general largesse; how stupid would they look playing on front of thousands of empty seats. Better still, West Ham's last 10 are W1 D4 L5. Also known as Championship Form.

I don't think it went up last year but a few seasons ago it went up significantly. No top flight European football and a very poor season, but of a cheek even increasing it 5%.

I genuinely worry for the game. Without the crazies, yes like us, it just becomes a spectator sport where they might as well give out pieces of paper with the words to ynwa.

Well the 6 I get for others have all renewed and the Perth supporters club want 2 if they are good ones ( mate emigrated and is organising trips back) so lfc still a draw. The test will be when they have 10000 more hospitality seers to sell, that is a big ask unless we get cheaper.
Sye was saying a std ticket was £59 well we pay on average £100 in that context dare I say it's not bad however £59 for a ticket for a seat is crazy.
At Newcastle I got told off for taking the prawn bowl, pouring in the Marie rose and walking away with it, a manager type said they were for everyone and I said it's all you can eat put more out! She had the last laugh my stomach was not happy!

Only experienced players i have seen linked is Milner, who strikes me as a very Moneyball player, so FSG will bite.

On balance we do have such a young squad, and with Balo, Lovern and Lallana all failing to perform (they should have been the senior players this year) its little wonder the season has been so up and down.

In the words of Spock... fascinating.

Michael Edwards – Head of Performance & Analysis

Perhaps the most important person in the chain. Michael Edwards’ role is to work on the 6 players who Dave Fallows presents to him as the specific targets on the long list and compile it down to the most suitable 3. He is the numbers man who works on stats and only stats. He is unaware of the players Brendan Rodgers prefers and simply works on what he is given. I will not go into his workings in detail as it would take a huge amount of time and typing but he effectively cuts 3 players from the 6 presented to him based solely on statistics.
Marvellous rolleyes

Ian Ayre – Managing Director

Ian Ayre is also one of the best negotiators around.

... He is set a transfer and wage budget by FSG and then has to work on implementing the same whilst trying to capture the players presented to him on the shortlist for each role...

The way he seals deals is brilliant and the work he does goes unnoticed by fans. He undeservedly takes it on the nose from supporters when signings fail to materialise. However, you have to take into account that he works to a budget, has to juggle numbers almost 24 hours a day and if I’m being absolutely honest – he works miracles. There are a number of rumours going around that he will leave his role this summer to work elsewhere. There is truth to that rumour but it is not of FSG’s choosing – the sponsors for whom he has bought into the club are constantly headhunting him which says it all really. Its no surprise that FSG have kept faith with Ayre since they took over the club in October 2010.
It comes as no surprise that FSG are setting strict budgets, and that the transfer team have a very tough job to capture targets when other top sides can be more profligate. Yet some place all the blame at the manager's door scratchchin

Interesting that Ayre could be on his Harley out of the club though...

CHANGES

Upon FSG’s last visit to Liverpool, there were questions raised as to why the summer transfer window yielded such a low level of success. I will not bore you with the ins and outs of that extensive meeting (which involved all members of the Committee, Colin Pascoe, Mike Marsh, Tom Werner and John Henry) but the following changes will come into force in the summer:-

– When Brendan Rodgers highlights a position he is also able to highlight a particular player and that player will form part of the 6-man list presented to Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter
– Michael Edwards role will continue to exist, however, a 4-man shortlist will now be drawn up rather than 3
– Brendan Rodgers will accompany Dave Fallows at all final meetings with agents and potential signings on the 4-man shortlist
– FSG will allow slight movement on player fees and wages (something they were wholly against when setting up the Committee when it came to pricing a player’s value)

In summary, Rodgers will have a greater say on whom he wants on the 6-man shortlist although there is still scope where the said player may not appear on the final shortlist and FSG will allow more leeway with negotiation of player fees and wages.
So, there's some positives in terms of process improvement at least. Lets hope its reflected this summer.

Rodgers will head to Boston for showdown talks with Liverpool’s owners next month, where he will be assured that his job is safe [Telegraph]

Most reports seem to think BR is safe so if thats the case they need to make sure the committee and him work together a lot better this summer

Who do we see going?

johnson - Free
manquillo - Loan
gerrard - Free
balo - 10m
borini - was talking to a scouse lad on the way home from Wembley , who knew Erin his MRS - she refused to move to Sunderland, said he is waiting for Italy (Milan ideally) 8-10m
lambert - Free
Toure - maybe? - free
Enrique - £4m
Coates - £4m
Lucas or Allen ? 6-8m
Jones - Free

Poss 30m + in fees
get 40m to spend with extra BT money so 70m with no major player gone - if the Raheem thing goes more sour then an extra 40m (be more than 30m purely because he is English)

You should never sign players based on statistics, however good the stats are.
Seems like a few of our players have been signed this and have actually been crap and unsuited to the premier league

Fascinating article. I can't help but think there are far too many people involved. So bureaucratic as to stifle any independent thought, gut instinct or quick decision to even consider at a player just made available, when one is required.
