Thinking I'm going to bite the bullet and go and see Barcelona vs Real Madrid in March. Just wondered if anyone had been and if so, where did you get tickets from?

Cheers, Matt

If you're going to go, wait to RM are at home. The Nou Camp is completely overrated.

Barcelona is indeed a nicer than Madrid, although Madrid is still a decent city. But if it's just about football, the Bernabau is no Dortmund but it's still miles better that the Nou Camp.

Barca vs Real is tough to get tickets for.

You can try the website, but they will be scarce. You can usually buy tickets on Las Ramblas when you get there (there is an official ticket stall)

You can get tickets at the ground for a normal game... but Barca Real is not a normal game.

Or you can try a tout... but I would be very careful

Atmosphere at the Bernabeu for Real Madrid v Liverpool was brilliant.
Atmosphere at the Nou Camp for Barcelona v Malaga was poor.

Barcelona better city overall though.

Good luck getting tickets which aren't extortionate biggrin i'd love to experience it one day. At the Bernabeu biggrin

I've been lucky enough to have been to some decent matches but nothing can compare you for an evening on the South Terrace at BVB. Especially if you go against Bayern or Schalke. I went to BVB v Bayern and I was literally deaf for about 24 hours. German football is like English football in the 70s, but without the mindless violence and with better quality players!

This.

I take my 'boys' (17 and 19) 2 or 3 times a year to Germany to watch a game - Munich and Dortmund so far this year, Berlin in 3 weeks. We drink loads of beer, eat good food, sight-see, and generally make a great long weekend of it. We soak up the atmosphere, which makes your average EPL game (and we go to many AFC/SAFC/NUFC games - long story) feel like a WI meeting in a library, and have made many friends. Standing works, if thought through properly. No trouble, cheap (apart from Bayern), and everything organised 'just so'.

How football should be.

Thanks for the responses. I get German football is great, but to be honest the chance of seeing Messi vs. Ronaldo outweighs that. The only safe way to do it seems to be do it through a travel company and get the hotel and the match ticket together, so it looks like we're gonna do that. Maybe Dortmund vs Bayern next year!

We went this year to madrid and as most people there got the tickets off viaggo.
They ranged from 100e to 1500e each.
The set up was very good although we did have to go and collect the tickets and return them post match to a hotel very close by.
It worked out much cheaper to book separately than an organised tour.
Flights and hotel through Expedia
4 nights in 4star hotel in Madrid plus flights were about 400£ each
So 700 ish per person for 4 nights B and B compared to 600 ish for 1 night organised trip.
I would possibly recommend taking room only as there are hundreds of places to have breakfast cheaply.
Just a word of warning though the tv companies often change the date either a day forward or back from the scheduled date which is why I booked 4 nights to cover all eventualities whilst the flights were still cheap.
Go and enjoy!!!
You can always join the supporters club (membership) and try that way which if it works would be miles cheaper

€30 to become a Madrista.
Can see it being a lottery however trying to get a ticket when they would get released to Madristas with no credit.

Agreed.

My little boys are 18 & 16, but the 16 y/o is not hugely into football. But my eldest & I have done Barca, PSG v Marseilles, Monaco and BVB v BM.

He has a list of massive games to see, the pick of which is Boca v River Plate. Hopefully in 2015.

Here's his video on it that he made, for those who aren't familiar with this fixture.

How did you get on with this OP?

I'm going to Madrid for the El Classico at the end of November for a friend's 40th. The only option I know of to get tickets seems to be Viagogo, and they are around £350 each. I don't mind paying that as it's a one-off, but does anyone know of any other options? Is Viagogo safe? We need 3 tickets.

Any other tips on enjoying the rest of the weekend? We'll be there from Friday morning until Monday.

Cheers

My lad (aged 19) and I are going to that too. Yes, the tickets are circa £350 but we were trawling a couple of months ago, checking each day on Viagogo, and suddenly 2 tickets popped up at £40 a piece. So we snapped them up! Unbelievable good luck. We're also going to watch Rayo Vallacano that weekend, tickets can be bought on the door. We're out Friday til Monday too, Easyjet from Luton.

However, the match was moved back 2 weeks to its current date so we had to rebook new flights and hotel, so we're now off to Madrid twice in Nov. The original w/end we've now bought tickets to see Athletico at home, direct off their website which is brilliant by the way. Looking forward to both trips. Love watching Diego Simeone on the touchline.

Also going to Dusseldorf with him in a couple of weeks, originally to see the boxing but that's been postponed, so now seeing Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday and Dortmund on Sunday.

I have to say, this stage in my son's life, where we spend loads of time bumming around the world watching football, is just great fun. We saw Japan v Uzbekistan in Tokyo at the end of March!

We have plans to do Boca Juniors v River Plate, just as soon as the Argentinian league's away fan ban is lifted. No point in going unless we can experience the full life threatening madness.

We managed to get tickets off a travel agent friend in the end which worked well, though not cheap. The game was pretty good, and the atmosphere was amazing. I believe Viagogo is safe, but I've never used it, and you're dealing with regular people, not a company, so it's a bit less secure. I think Viagogo refund you if anything goes wrong but obviously you've got flights and accommodation to think about as well.

We went to the game in Barcelona, not Madrid, and I haven't been to Madrid so can't help you on that front, but for Spain in general don't be a typical Brit and eat burger and chips, if you can find a tapas place with no Brits in it you've probably found a good place. Also, allow a lot of time to get to the game, the streets clog up and it took us probably 40 mins just to hail down a taxi that didn't have someone in it.

Good luck.

In Germany this weekend with my oldest lad. Bayer Leverkusen v Stuttgart on Saturday and Dortmund v Augsburg on Sunday.

Basing ourselves in Dusseldorf (dirt cheap flight).
