Missed the alone one fella. I think one thing to bear in mind with relationships is the vast majority of them do end, but that is not to say you will then therefore be alone. In time new relationships can begin, albeit I know it is difficult to realise that when you a fresh out of one and hurting.

Have you got friends for socialising or a support network you can turn to?

Hope you get better soon. At least you are seeing the Doctors and at least it IS treatable. Good luck.

On the subject of your blog, being as nbody else will tell you, it's a bit crap if you don't mind my saying. Yours is an interesting story and the whole premise of it is 'how football ruined my life' and yet none of it is about how football ruined your life and more about how you are currently feeling. I genuinely mean this to be constructive but if you had titled your blog "Daily diaries of someone with depression" how many people would ever read it?
What I hoped to find and would genuinely have been interested in, is a serialisation about your life until now, and how you got into it and how it ruined your life.
Unless of course I have missed a great chunk of blog somewhere along the line?

As I said, hope this is constructive but Im happy to delete it if you don't think so - just drop me a pm

No need to delete, your entitled to your opinion be it good or bad. Have you read the early posts detailing my career? I have documented a large part early on.

Ah, no - that's what I was looking for which would have tied it all together.
Posts on PH or posts on the blog?

If you click on the blog and scroll right to the bottom I believe the links are there.

The start of this blog was perhaps a week after I started it so maybe start there. Let me know your revised opinion. I don't mind if you still think it's st!

Agree with the above wholeheartedly. Do you have friends/family to chat to - maybe not just about depression but the other stuff too like "how st your boss was today" or "can you believe it's raining again"?

If you do have that network then that's great (use it)! I found when I had a tough time a couple of years back I got into podcasts. Some were like having friends around whenever you needed them, like on the evenings when there was nobody around. fk me that sounds tragic doesn't it - don't judge me! wink

If you don't have that group of friends then seems like there are plenty of people on here to socialise with (even if only electronically) and sure noone would begrudge a PM or two.

Back on the subject of the blog...I selfishly enjoy it more when it involves footy talk but only because I find your taste in music depressing (pun intended biggrin ). But I admire the honesty and frankness of all your posts.

I read your blog Ruskie, thanks for sharing it. It cant really offer any sage words having never gone through the depths you have but, I hope that it helps you to know that your blog will help me in understanding some people around me.

Nicely written, if somewhat sad of course, you're obviously going through tough times and I hope you'll work it out.

It's rare to read something nicely written, sincere and engaging from a footballer. I see you're a Paramedic now. Why not blog about that in more detail? Writing about something positive might make you feel a bit more positive. I'm no psychiatrist, by the way, but I wonder if that might help you. You must come across some funny, ugly and odd scenarios that folks would like to read about, perhaps?

Good luck, and keep up the good work smile
Thank you very much for the feedback. I agree with your point but it is far more complicated to blog about life as a paramedic due to issues with anonymity, patient confidentiality and staff confidentiality. I would need permission from my trust to do it and even then they might not agree.

A lesson learnt. Depression never leaves you.

https://howfootballruinedmylife.wordpress.com/2015...

This blog post is, I feel as raw and uncut as I have ever wrote. It is how I feel at this exact moment and I make no apologies for that. After it wouldn't be a very good blog if I diluted my thoughts and didn't explain what it's like to suffer with depression.

This blog post is very dark and if your not in a positive frame of mind you might be best avoiding it.

It is however me baring my soul and being completely honest about how I feel. No bullst, undiluted and honest.

Ruskie - or indeed others on this thread - have you listened to any of the Guardian Football weekly podcasts they are putting out at the moment?

The interview with Dean Windass is tough listening at times when he is discussing drinking, divorce guilt and drunken suicide attempts. There is also one with goalkeeper Jimmy Neilsen and his chronic gambling issues.

I will definitely check that out, I played with Deano, indeed I got a brief mention in his autobiography.

It's pretty frank stuff - well worth a listen! He came across pretty well really even though I'm no fan of his playing ethos of winding up players (decent player himself though)
