Also United has moved on from where it was when Fergie took over. Its a huge beast and the expectations from Day 1 are ridiculous. Managers need to hit the ground running, compete in the Premier league, cups, and in Europe because the money at stake is too high. To have Giggs or Ole with no experience of managing a big club would be lunacy.

Probably depends on the situation at that club, Barcelona seems to be doing fine with Guardiola previously and now L.Enrique, Bayern however didn't wenn Klinsmann took over.

Challo said:
The fans might give them an easier time then Moyes or LvG has been given but the money men wont. United is now a business not just a football club and the Glazers & Shareholders have expectations that need to be met.
So far the pressure and expectations seems to be coming more from the media (which "report" all sorts of fake news in the name of selling newspapers/klicks) and fans than from the Glazers or the board.

Kicking a manager out just on the basis of pure romance and/or panic does nothing wenn the underlying problem is clearly on and not off the pitch. And given all circumstances and the task at hand; creating a turn-around and rejuvenation, which seems to be more than recognized by ManU's board, means ManU is probably better of with an experienced manager.

Question from newbie hope it hasn't been asked before. If united or spurs win the Europa league and finish in the top four will the team finishing fifth get a champions league place

No, that spot will then go to Norway ;-)

And if Platini somehow manages to be elected FIFA or UEFA President (it really doesn't matter) in the upcomming elections said spot will go to either China or Qatar between now and 5 years (@the highest bidder) ;-)

Hmm, how strange. He's been available since November and yet we endure our worst spell in god knows how long with no action. Then when things start to look better and maybe the team is becoming more confident and working better, we throw this into the mix. Hah. It makes sense, though I've not been Mourinho's biggest fan (respect his results, just not his manner off the pitch), just the timing is odd. Perhaps the Guardiola thing really did catch them off guard and this is the result.

Hey ho, interesting times.

I just get the feeling that it will all end in tears .

Mourinho is toxic . I wouldn't want him at my club , Koeman would be my choice.

Pochetino over Keoman all day long. His team is very inconsistent.

Maureen would be alright if the club could protect him from the media but it will be a feeding frenzy so I doubt its possible & on balance I don't think we need that kind of circus any more. If we make good progress over the next 5 games & continue to play the way we have over the last 2 then I would say we should try & keep LVG. If it reverts to what it was before then clearly he hasn't got control of the thing & he needs to go at the end of the season.

It might, it's not like he has a reputation for long term stays or not leaving a pickle behind, but to a certain degree better the devil you know. In the absence of any long term plan - and I really do doubt there is one of any substance - choosing the best short term solution available makes sense. At least it should give the club time to make a proper solution.

Perhaps he has learnt from Chelsea, maybe if he wants this job so much it will temper his toxicity. Conversely of course it could make him worse, the pressure here is about as big as you can get. If somehow he can be brought in with a more strategic role being appointed too, to oversee the back end of the football club setup, then it could be excellent. He'd better give CBJ, Perreira et al a chance though, we've had our Pogba moment don't want any more.

I suspect we now know why we didn't buy in Jan.

At a guess maybe LvG is the one who wants to go, he's always said it was gonna be his last job and maybe he's fked off with it all. If he gets us to 4th again he can walk away rather than skulk.

José has time to relax for a bit and hopefully come back calmer, whilst he isn't my favourite for the role we do need to react to the Pep news and he's gotta be in the Top 3 based on what's he's achieved

It will either be a great move or an utter disaster but someone on the Caf made a good point about him not staying anywhere for a long term, his last 2 clubs have hardly been stable environments for any manager

The source makes me think there is something in this, I just havent worked out how I feel about it yet

Considering he said he would have turned down ANY club to go back to Chelsea, the 'Special One' is somewhat humbled now (we can dream) ...

I'm surprised ANY Utd fan would want him. He was Chelsea this, Chelsea that ... they got rid because the guy became more of an arse than he already was.

If he gets the Utd job his ego will return to bite you in the backside I fear ... it's Utd fans' fear of not winning anything for the forseeable which is making them blind to this tt's shortcomings.

Again ?, they've reported that 2 months ago already. Since El Loco has been send away by the players of the previous two clubs he coached it probably means the Glazers are struggling negotiating Special Gone's lay-off terms.

Makes me wonder though what's the claim and pursuit for "Attack, attack, attack" worth if ManU appoints a manager who's primary legacy is parking the bus.

Would be interesting to see though how he does managing a club which doesn't have the best sqaud in the leaque.

I'd check how many goals mourihnos team scored compared to united teams over the yeArs before regurgitating press mythology.
His first Chelsea teAm were brilliant to watch, he made a st inter Milan Ecl winners,an inferior Madrid team title winners over barca.
He is and always has been in my view the only manager who should have taken over after ferguson.

The only concern is his lack of faith in youth ,but since we are not producing a single youth player of any note anyway that's irrelevant.

Did he have the best squads in Europe at Inter and Porto when he won the Champions League?

I said they should have got the special one when United were looking at the chosen one before the boring one.

I have not changed my mind.

If Utd go with the mental one then everyone in the media will be wanting another meltdown a la Chelsea as it'll sell lots of headlines!

If you hadn't got Klopp and were still stuck with Brenton, would you have taken José? Even with some reservations about his behaviour?

No, I've never been a big fan of Jose. If he had been appointed manager I would have supported him, but he wouldn't be anywhere near my first choice.
