I would make him sign a new contract, but that's unlikely to happen. He needs playing time now for the euro's.

Not the best choice of words by me but I'm saying it would be perfect if we could get him to sign a one year contract extension and sell him next year. Very unlike tho.

Regarding making him sign, its a stty situation now sadly, without a doubt your star player IMO so what happens now?

Well we need somehow to get DDG into the right frame of mind to perform for us. Call it professionalism, call it earning a place for Euro 2016, call it whatever, but we can't be going on with Romero as 1st choice with DDG still on the payroll.

I guess a lot will depend on how he perceives the situation to have come about. Is it RM's fault for dallying and not just paying what we wanted much sooner, or is it our fault for holding out for such an amount. Either way I'm sure he's pretty pissed right now and do we have the right management in place to cope with that?

They'll lose him in the summer for nothing. He'll presumably be cup tied in the CL for any sales in the January window so is pretty worthless to the teams who would be interested.

Apparently PL and CL squads need to be entered by this evening so I guess we'll get a decent idea as to what happens.

I think he'll be back in the squad myself

This was deliberate by madrid,Alledgedly a deal was agree int he morning, then madrid spent the rest of the day trying to get the price down, culminating with them not processing the paperwork in good time ,which they easily could have done.I hope its exposed and de gea gets pissed off with them and signs a new contract with a 100m release clause.

I'd have thought playing first team football in order to have a chance of making the Euro Championships is leverage enough "to make" him sign a new contract?

This is just Real putting down a marker on him for next season when he'll cost fk all

Don't care how decent he is no club anywhere are dumb enough to splash out £30M for a player they can get for nothing 10 months later.

I was thinking that but Perez is under pressure to make 'Glatico' signings and nothing has happened this year.

There is a rumour RM might receive a transfer ban for 2016 - which would explain their reluctance to wait and get him for free!

I just don't think Real had any intentions of buying him at all. They know the player has been desperate to join them for months so they can afford to just be a little patient can't they

If they really wanted him for this season this deal would have been done & dusted weeks ago. Lets face it when Madrid want a player they get that player.

I'm trying not to come across as an ABU but United are the real losers here.

Apparently, the word in Spain is that the paperwork arrived in Madrid just minutes before the midnight cut-off. Leaving Real no time to get everything processed.

WHy this deal wasn't done days or even weeks ago beggars belief. Both clubs have come out of this looking a bit silly.

Not if the rumour about the transfer ban is true. It means they wouldn't be able to sign him until Jan 2017 at the earliest, possibly losing him on a free to another team, Barca even, maybe...

There are certainly games being played. RM's official statement pointing the finger at us for not giving them time to update the TMS in time for the deadline (they were 2 minutes late, they say MU did it's side bang on midnight). But then they would say that. I'm sure we have a version of events that said we did everything right and it's Madrids fault.

I agree though, if Perez really wanted this done it would have happened. The timeline RM put out in their official statement shows dallying on both sides, so none are clean, but surely the onus is on the club with the most imminent deadline to push.

Clearly MU will lose out on the transfer fee, but if we keep DDG on side and he plays properly for us (big if) then that mitigates to some extent. If we could spin in for DDG that this is all down to Madrid's politics and Perez doing a last minute dirty then we might even convince him it's not where he wants to go - especially if we can find him a nice manc lass to boot.

It's all a big clusterfk though and frankly doesn't reflect well on anyone. Just makes a farce of the transfer window and I'd imagine some pretty strong questions being asked of Ed by his bosses at the moment.

Last night, I heard a report on the radio which stated that the European Players' Association is going to challenge the whole 'transfer window' system in the European Courts, citing a restraint of trade for their members.
