does that mean DDG effectively can leave on a free at the end of this season? if so that's even worse than the debacle over contracts, irrespective of who's fault it was....
you have to feel for the player too...but any how lets see him back in the side, ipswich should be a useful warm up...
Martial and Depay buying future potential and not really an investment at those prices...I'm bemoaning the lack of domestic talent going in to the top flight yet again during this window....
who has been the marquee domestic player moving clubs??
I'm going with Raheem quite comfortably based on the first 4 games. Only likely to get better as well. you have to feel for the player too...but any how lets see him back in the side, ipswich should be a useful warm up...

Yes, but by comparing to Raheem you infer you believe he will be just as good - my point is that he could become the next Shaun Wright Phillips for £36m! I think most people will agree that Sterling represents as good/bad if not better "value for money" as Martial.
Maybe that's because you've only seen Sterling play so know his qualities. How often you seen Martial play to judge whether he's good value or not?jammy_basturd said:

Weren't some scouse fans saying exactly that about Raheem when he signed for City?GTO-3R said:

No one has seen Martial play, at least at the highest levels, often. He's only had 52 league appearances in his whole career. He makes Sterling look positively veteran!jammy_basturd said:

I must have read that 10 times but it still won't make sense to me and it's just making my head hurt I think you're trying to say most people you've polled think Sterling offers more chance of value for money than Martial. I'd be surprised really if many of those people had even heard of the young Frenchman let alone seen him play.
It's definitely a gamble, I'm with you there (I think!) but due to folk not wanting to sell, I fail to see what else there was.
I've got to say, you must be one of those rare enlightened LFC fans if you place any value in Sterling's capabilities though because all I've heard all summer was how last season he never put a decent cross in, wouldn't track back and was too lightweight so the mighty LFC were well rid.
Personally I didn't have any of those criticisms of Sterling. I wasn't too bothered when he left mainly because he'd shown himself to be far less than professional, was pretty useless for us last season and Ibe had shown more potential than Sterling at the same age. Granted Sterling has now had a great start at City.
I think a lot of people are surprised you've paid so much for Martial. I think Monaco knew you were desperate, hence the much higher price for you than the one they gave Spurs. You could have had Berahino for £25m. Essentially it's a massive gamble on the potential this dude turns into the next Henry, when the odds are relatively small and the risk is relatively large.

And in those 52 he has 11 goals, compared to Raheems 18 in 90 odd? They're similar age and have both been called up for their respective international teams.
Of course it's a risk, any player that age is but I think the comparison is valid except Martial was 13m less.
i dont think it would really be that much of an issue if you had bought him and say Berahino, think the issue might be for you guys is you are buying a teenager for such a large some of money, bringing him into a new league and pretty much need him to hit the ground running..even more so if Rooney picks up an injury,
HUGE amount of pressure on the lad..
Be interesting to see him...For that money Lacazette would have surely been a more sensible option - the owner of Lyon has already said 50m euro and he can go too
