Guys!

We've panicked and bought a young lad with huge potential that we have been after for months!! I knew we should have stayed calm and bought a big name journeyman or Messi!!

Damn it. These lightning quick strikers with a good finish are 10-a-penny anyway, aren't they? Just like that crappy French winger that never performed at Arsenal and is now always on Sky.

OMFG! A teenager and we've paid over the odds?
How's that passed me by? Ah well, maybe we'll enquire about someone top level next time. Could we ask about Lambert or Carroll or Ings or any other superstar? One can only hope so because they've reached such consistent levels in the Prem they'd be guaranteed to do well against the cream of Europe in the CL.

Looking ahead.
United fluke through the ECL league stage and draw Real Madrid.
I wonder who will be in goal for United.
Let's say Utd pick DDG.
And then..
Bale picks up a pass, jinks around our predictably static defence.
He's clear on the keeper.....

well if Ronaldo is free he won't pass it to him, thats for sure. He might score, but it would only be a consolation for them yes

I wonder how many folks in France knew about Rooney when we dropped 30million on him ten years ago. 30 million. Ten years ago. fking bargain that now isn't it?

We dropped 30 million on an 18 year old full back last summer, he's looking a very good buy now.

36 million on Martial may prove to be a hell of a buy.

The most significant quote about the whole affair?

Cantona: "Martial is France' biggest talent, in 3yrs he'll be worth €100m. Hopefully he scores many goals for Utd."

That'll do for me.

Or Real Madrid don't make it past the group stages because navas knows he's not wanted... wink

Yeah, and he also said:-

"When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea."

Wayne Rooney's transfer was worth over £70m, adjusting for inflation, 2 years ago, so probably £75-80m in today's money. (source - http://tomkinstimes.com/2014/01/transfer-records-a...)

So Martial's a bargain then. Thanks for clearing that up.

No one will know that for at least a season or two. What we do know is that this is the most any club has paid for unproven potential in quite a while!

Earlier this summer, Spurs offered £16m for Martial. Monaco turned us down, saying that the lad was worth £20m.

You hear different things , I read somewhere you offered 25m ,monaco did not want to sell according to the French journo i heard on the radio .
If we have to pay the 55m it will be worth it as the add ons are along the lines of 5m if he wins the ballon D'or, 5m if he wins the European golden boot etc etc

They know Franki, doesnt suit the narrative though. Far better to mock us for buying young talent than to acknowledge their own issues. An injury to Kane and they are left with Adebayor, they couldn't even manage a signing from WBA.

Its just deflection

Lots of scrolling past posts taking digs at our transfer fees tonight. I honestly don't give a turd if we pay £10m or £36m for the lad. Net spend leagues win you nothing, we can afford the fee, end of story.
This, many times over. I struggle to care about how much United or any other club pay for players. At the end of the day it's not my money - Sky, BT Sports, Adidas, Chevrolet and all the others fund our transfer business more than shirt sales or match day revenue from fans. So what does it matter if we've over paid for an unknown Frenchy or City spunk a tiny fraction of their owner's massive cash reserves on Sterling?

The same goes for De Gea staying for another year and us getting nothing for him. It's not like we're going to struggle financially or miss out on being able to buy a player we're after in the future. Slightly concerned about having an unhappy member of the squad, but hopefully he'll be professional about it and be a key player for the season. If I were him, I'd be more pissed off with Real having not bothered to make a bid until the last day of the transfer window!

Considering Spurs have the youngest squad in the Premiership, it would be foolish of me to mock United for buying young talent.

What I am mocking United for is throwing thirty five million pounds at Monaco in a desperate bid to get someone in. Someone who made many of his appearances for them starting on the bench. A nineteen year old who could not command a starting position in the Monaco team. A kid who will be under enormous pressure to perform immediately.

That type of mocking. Precise and to the point. yes

Its actually 36m just for accuracy

Of course the idea is that he will improve at Man Utd. (To define improve, take what Spurs did to Paulihno, Soldado, Lamela and reverse it)

Vicente del Bosque: “If David De Gea doesn’t play with Manchester United, it’ll be tough for him to play the Euro with Spain."

As suspected.

I am now expecting a hefty PR campaign from both sides (DDG's and the Clubs) in the next couple of weeks to ensure the fans are onside and him back between the sticks ASAP
