He won't be under huge pressure from the outset. Utd are pretty good at bringing on young players, and the fans tend to be very supportive of emerging talent. Wilson has huge support, for example, as does Janujaz. I bet I am not the only one disappointed to see J go away on loan, but playing every game at a high level might actually be brilliant for him.

Considering Spurs have the youngest squad in the Premiership, it would be foolish of me to mock United for buying young talent.

What I am mocking United for is throwing thirty five million pounds at Monaco in a desperate bid to get someone in. Someone who made many of his appearances for them starting on the bench. A nineteen year old who could not command a starting position in the Monaco team. A kid who will be under enormous pressure to perform immediately.

That type of mocking. Precise and to the point. yes
I'm not disagreeing the fee is mad , but he is a starter for Monaco , has been this season , and was first choice in all their big games last season.

Of course he will. LVG is going to leave thirty SIX million quids worth of striker on the bench? Yeah, right.

Yeah. He was really afraid to bench ADM, wasn't he?

He's happy enough to leave thirty SIX million quids worth of midfielder on the bench

Lots of scrolling past posts taking digs at our transfer fees tonight. I honestly don't give a turd if we pay £10m or £36m for the lad. Net spend leagues win you nothing, we can afford the fee, end of story.
This, many times over. I struggle to care about how much United or any other club pay for players. At the end of the day it's not my money - Sky, BT Sports, Adidas, Chevrolet and all the others fund our transfer business more than shirt sales or match day revenue from fans. So what does it matter if we've over paid for an unknown Frenchy or City spunk a tiny fraction of their owner's massive cash reserves on Sterling?

The same goes for De Gea staying for another year and us getting nothing for him. It's not like we're going to struggle financially or miss out on being able to buy a player we're after in the future. Slightly concerned about having an unhappy member of the squad, but hopefully he'll be professional about it and be a key player for the season. If I were him, I'd be more pissed off with Real having not bothered to make a bid until the last day of the transfer window!

Agree. The amount of money sky and others have pumped into the game in England has meant all the fees are skewed. Quality players are thin on the ground and clubs know they can jack up the fees they want. We can afford it overall so not concerned.
Arsenal signed no one, City paid out 100m on 2 players which may or not be work, Chelsea have only really bought Pedro, and Spurs have done nothing in the window. I think we will be ok.

Are you? Other than the class of '92, which was obviously a bit of an anomaly, I don't think I can remember one Utd youth prospect that has been successful for you guys?

Yep! The only youth players Utd develop are for other teams (I think they have one of the highest numbers of academy products playing in the top leagues).

Rooney and Ronaldo are the other young players that have turned out pretty well.

It's unsurprising that most of our youngsters have to be sold on but we have produced plenty of Prem players over the last decade.

Pogba also. frown

I think ORD was more referring to that fact our fans are used to giving time to young players with potential rather than just our academy players. The likes of Pereira and Januzaj are exciting to have even if to fans of other teams it looks like Januzaj is a bit poo sometimes.

The potential fee for Martial is actually £58m. LVG has spent over £250m in less than two years. Steve McClaren must be scratching his head in disbelief.

And if he meets the conditons set for the fee to reach that price then he'll be worth it!

The fee is 22m paid now,14m paid over the next 4 years. The rest are add ins based on very high performance targets which I and the rest of united fans will be be happy to pay....5m if he wins the ballon d'or,5m if he wins europes golden boot,
2 or 3 million of United win the champs league ,and 5m if he becomes the pope.

Don't rise to it Keyser, anyone with sense can see that if we end up paying that for Martial then we have a world class (best in the world with the Ballon D'Or) and the fee is more than worth it.

Everyone seems to forget that we paid 15 million less for a player who scored more goals than Sterling last season but because nobody over here has heard of him then it's a gamble....load of bks.
