Reports in Spain from two separate places that Real Madrid (and Atletico Madrid) will face transfer bans just like Barcelona.

It can only be good news if true, if they appeal as they almost certainly will, we'll get a more realistic fee for Dave should he leave this summer.

Yes but wouldn't they still be able to sign free transfers next year anyway? If that's the case it doesn't help at all.

Nope, I believe it stops them registering new players. At least it did for Barcelona.

Have you noticed how exciting the relegation race is this season? Villa could finally (answering my prayers for decades) go down!

Liverpool have, touch wood, put an end to any interest in the top of the table by losing to Hull.

On form, Newcastle are in trouble. Just need Hull and Villa to make room for them in the drop zone.
Anyone for "I would just live it?"

A bit optimistic re Newcastle. I want them to go down, but they will get at least 2 or 3 points from the remaining 4 games. No team loses that many games in a row!

Aye. Just me dreaming. Since I was relegated to the North East I've become used to people who think football barely exists beyond the Tyne and Wear. Heck, Hartlepool are big news here!
Most fans carry on like their club is the best and their fans the most loyal. But Newcastle Know It As A Fact.
Pillocks. First to the bottom drawer to find Owner/Manager out banners.

And,
Rant postponed......

Dortmund have confirmed Gündoğan won't renew his contract and is likely to leave this summer.

It's not even the end of the season and I have my first transfer boner (transboner?).

I think that might be something else...

Have we not learned from history? Huge, boner-causing transfers almost always turn out to be very disappointing - see AdM and Falcao in very recent history. Both massive stories and respectable boners. Neither in the starting line up.

But Van Nistelroy, Van Persie (briefly), Ronaldo, Cantona, Rio etc have all done pretty well...

Saw on facebook that Pogba has signed with PSG, so that rules him out.

Only VP is in the same bracket.

Ronaldo was a promising kid.

Cantona was a risky, potentially washed up nutter.

Rio, maybe you're right on that one.

But I raise you Veron & Bartez.

I'm no Utd fan but my memory of Cantona at Leeds was nothing close to yours! He wasn't washed up by any stretch of the imagination.

You also paid big for Rooney too. That one worked out ok.

They don't always work out you're right, every transfer is a risk. But to be honest the biggest stiffies I've had over transfers didn't actually happen... recent ones were Vidal, Kroos and Hazard a few summers ago. I didn't have time to get it up over Di Maria (seemed so unlikely) and Falcao came out of the blue (excuse the pun) so now I'm flaccid isn't much of a surprise to me.

Mata and Herrera were decent sized transfer boners that I think are going well so far and will hopefully continue to improve... Di Maria is still our top assists guy despite being shat compared to his Real Madrid form. I hope he can kick on next season providing he isn't kidnapped at home by burglars or PSG.

I really like Herrera and Mata, and you're right (about Mata at least).

True re Rooney and VN as well.

I guess my point should have been that huge signings only pay off about, maybe, half the time. Something like that?

Big signings are just like other signings I guess. They're all risks, just the big ones tend to be more expensive because they're considered less risky (and other things as well obviously). Doesn't always work out the less risky way and when they don't work out, they're in the spotlight.

Agreed.

Talking of disappointing players always makes me think of Djemba Djemba and a call a friend made to Talk Sport. The pundit had said that D D hadn't been given long enough to prove himself and looked decent. My mate called in for the one and only time in his life and said 'You have to be kidding me. He's slow, he's fat, he's got the worst first touch I ever seen in the Premiership, he can't pass, he can't tackle. I watch him out there. I'm a fan since I was 3, bear in mind, and I watch every game. I watch him out there and I feel physically sick'

There was a really long silence before anyone said anything. It was golden.
