Perhaps it would help Smalling if he had a proper CB alongside him, so that he didn't feel he was having to do all of the physical stuff himself. Blind I feel has done a decent job at CB, but it's not his position really which means Mike has to do all the heavy lifting so to speak.

He has come on leaps and bounds though, this season. One of the few bright points of 15/16 so far.
Agreed. Another area LVG has not addressed.

Despite Blind's shortcomings, largely as a result of being played out of position, I do like him. Very classy and composed.

I agree Blind's done very well considering it's not his position and yes, if Mickey could rely on proper help he may not feel so pressured. It's still a worry about conceding penalties though especially when we can't afford to lose a single goal these days due to our less-than-prolific offensive play.
It's a pity LvG doesn't seem to have much confidence in Paddy. I think he could develop well and this is the ideal season to do it - let's face it, we've no real chance of silverware.

Paddy again is potentially a round peg/square hole situation. I like him but he's not a natural centre half.

Or, indeed, a natural footballer. He's quite bad.

I wonder if they where hoping Jones would be part of the pairing but being constant injured hasn't helped. Paddy might come good, Rojo is a squad player. Another CB is needed.

Well his nickname probably begins with Sh at least. No rumours of anything happening today I guess?

Short odds on signing Mathie Debuchy from the Arsenal.

With the bungling upstairs, I suspected all along that LvG was safe until the end of this window. Just so there was no time for the next bloke to strengthen.

Debuchy off as Wenger will not sell to Utd.
Events at the council house still mean we have the worst EPL manager in Manchester.

Do you think that the Sheiks have bought the Glazers and are now toying with United? Sort of pulling the spiders legs off one by one!

I am at a loss to name anything that Dunderhead and LVG are doing that will lead to success on the pitch.

Lol @ Debuchy. Can you imagine that - even if we did? On the same day City confirming Pep, we get an Arsenal cast off on loan? Jebus talk about bad day.

I wonder if the club were banking on getting on Pep? Interesting next board meeting if they were...come to think of it, wonder if we even have a credible long term plan any more.

Better sign up all those noodle and tofu commercial deals now Ed, we won't be so attractive for much longer.

LvG was a good choice after the Moyes debacle, but unfortuantly it hasn't worked out and we are back to where we were when Fergie left. I do think Ed has struggled a bit on the football terms. Unless something goes drastically wrong LvG will be here till the summer.

Does anyone go on Red Cafe? Just had a quick look about as Pep has been confirmed as going to City and people are losing their minds. Woodward OUT, LvG OUT threads, and people claiming Giggs is next messiah. banghead

I agree. Other than Giggs.

Woodward has been a disaster. Great commercial and marketing guy, but too naive as a CEO. Too used to dealing with "blue chip" sponsors compared to cut throat cowboy agents.

If we don't sign anyone in this window, that's got to be the death knell for LVG as well.

Board meeting next week will be interesting.

The question remains, LVG out, who's in?

Jose or Giggs seem the likely choices. Neither very appealing.
