3-0 , can't knock the manager for this result surely.
Nope, not at all. This is what we wanted to see, the style of play almost more than the result. Now whether it is a sign of him slackening his philosophy, or just a false dawn from poor opponents, we will see. It should be obvious to him though now from the atmosphere in the ground during and after the game, that this is the formula. It won't be the safest of ways of playing, it never was, but it's what he is supposed to be delivering (in the fans eyes at least). His approach to the Chelsea game will be very telling.

For LVG himself is it too late? I don't know. He won't be easily forgiven for the dross of the first half of this season, but if he can deliver this type of play between now and the end of the season, and somehow deliver 4th then it could be enough to get him the last year of his contract. I think that's a very big ask though, even if what we saw tonight is miles beyond where we have been of late.

Thought Fellaini did well tonight - defensively sound for the set pieces and got around the pitch a lot too. Suspect at the point he went off not many, if any, had covered so much ground as him. Would Schneiderlin / Schweinsteiger have contributed as much?

I don't think so if we keep playing like this, whilst we have been frustrated by the style of play, if things come good for the season end I think we'll keep him. That said, we played like this recently and then the next game it was back to dullness...

I would be happy with José being the Manager if we got an indication that he wanted to be a long term leader.

I would also be happy (if not a little naive) for Ole Gunner to be the Manager and Giggsy his No.2.
Ole is a very focused and determined guy, knows how Manchester United and English football work.

I love Ole and Giggsy but they are not the next Man United manager. Ole had a shocking spell managing Cardiff, and has only managed Molde in Norway. Giggs has had a couple of years as a number 2 but does not have the experience to manage United.
Didn´t Ole lead Molde to their first ever title when he was their Manager first time round, followed by holding the title and then winning the Norwegian in the third year.

Manchester United Reserves -
Premier Reserve League (1): 2009–10
Premier Reserve League North (1): 2009–10
Lancashire Senior Cup (1): 2008–09
Manchester Senior Cup (1): 2009
Molde FK -
Norwegian Premier League (2): 2011, 2012
Norwegian Football Cup (1): 2013

Reminds me of a once very young SAF.

I agree regarding Giggsy, a little to soft.
In Cardiff things were already in a very bad way when he joined them mid term.
Back at Molde again and I'll be interested to se how he goes on.

I remember a few years ago saying to my mates that we should get that bloke from Aberdeen. Trust me wink

Martial is a very special talent, not seen a player go past people so effortlessly for a long time.
If he keeps his head straight and works hard he will be one of the best in the world in a few years (probably after Madrid sign him)

He is absurd class. I just hope we can keep him for long enough that the team improves and gives him a reason to stay.

There was only 1 link for each match. I tried all the others but they were pointing to the right things. Just flattened my Kodi last week and installed a new build so need to populate it properly. Was using NJMsoccer but it's stopped now. I'll get there...

So the fact there were games last night passed me by but it seems we played well, attacked and scored. I almost don't believe it.

What did we do so differently?

From the back, Darmian and JB were willing to get forward.

Carrick's passing, although he looked a bit rusty. Fella in midfield supported him well.

Mata playing at number 10.

Rooney has discovered some form, and his partnership with Martial is starting to look good.

We didn't try to keep the ball for the sale of keeping it, and we turned defence into attack quickly rather than pondering, illustrated perfectly by the second goal.

I still think the defence looks poor. But I'd rather play like we did last night even if we lose some goals.

We had that very discussion today at work. If we play like that for the rest of the season, win all of our remaining games (which would win us the FA Cup and the Europa League, never mind do wonders for our league position), would that be enough to change the minds of fans, the vast majority of which want to see him replaced ?

I think it's a stay of execution at the moment, but it'll be infuriating if we go back to the usual dross knowing we can play like that.

Seeing the beating Gary Neville is getting in Spain may be a warning for those wanting an untried manager at Old Trafford.

Fun fact from Reddit - Last time Barcelona scored 7 with one player scoring 4 and the other 3 was in 1956. The 4 goals were scored by a man named Luis Suarez!

Also, Suarez' dad called him Luis as 1956 Luis was his favourite player!

I agree on taking Molde to their first title, but we know how poor the reserve leagues are. English football is completely different to Norwegian football, and i know Cardiff was a mess behind the scenes but you still need to get performances on the pitch. Also United has moved on from where it was when Fergie took over. Its a huge beast and the expectations from Day 1 are ridiculous. Managers need to hit the ground running, compete in the Premier league, cups, and in Europe because the money at stake is too high. To have Giggs or Ole with no experience of managing a big club would be lunacy.
The fans might give them an easier time then Moyes or LvG has been given but the money men wont. United is now a business not just a football club and the Glazers & Shareholders have expectations that need to be met.
