We are going forward in my eyes. Some good purchases in terms of players this year which allow us to have variety of options in defence, midfield and forwards depending on what we need to do in a game. Unlucky with a few injuries for Micky and Shaw so with them back we will look much better and more settled. Yesterday showed that we had a game plan to stop Liverpool playing, and the plan was executed as it should and all the team worked hard.
Still a work in progress and still need a few more windows to axe some dross from the squad. Times have changed from SAF days, and we are just like any other club in the top 6 fighting for the title and champions league.
What a sudden realism and departure of last seasons "a decent manager would've taken this team to the title" rhetoric. Worse even, when has "a game plan to stop Liverpool playing" become the bar setting for United ?
And decent purchases ?, still to be decided I'd say. Ibra and Bailly are delivering no question. Micky though hardly played a minute yet and Pogba is a real disappointment so far. And speaking of injury's; United had many more last season, Shaw obviously one of them.
Previous season LvG was slated for the style of play, I'm not seeing progress on that front. It's mostly far from enjoyable to watch, some parts of games were def. good, but as I pointed out, there seems to be a clear distinction between the way United can play and how Mourinho let's his team play, too conservative most of the time. Plus they've not even achieved some of the same results against the same opponents as they did so last season, City and Liverpool for instance.

How sad. But to be fair to Citeh, we don't get a lot of them on this forum crowing about drawing
they dont get a lot of them on their forum even if they win so dont take that as a good thing DeltonaS said:

I was curious, and bored, so plotted this seasons PL games against the same fixtures last season... just for some perspective So we have the same points (woo) but have scored more and conceded more. Lots of £'s spent too, of course. Make of it what you will, beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc. Without the horror show this year against Watford things would look even better.

Interesting didn't expect that, although has to be said, Southampton and Leicester this season were def. different opponents than they were last season. As were City and Liverpool... Both sides have improved on last season and we faced both of them when they were in their best form. We were also pretty crap Vs Watford last year and got two scrappy goals to win, so I'm not that bothered about that.I bet we had more chances Vs Stoke and played better this season than last when we won 3-0. Compare that to last season when we only just beat Villa 1-0 and couldn't even score against Newcastle at home. I'd say there's a definite improvement in our team this season to last.

You guys are in form, beating top teams. We are still building, had a few poor games before the break and a loss last night would have heaped huge pressure on the team and Jose. We set-up out to stop Liverpool playing, shut down the space and not lose. Boring? Yes. Effective? Yes. Liverpool had no plan B? Yes.
A point away from home in a huge Derby is a good result. Jose knows he has to deliver this season for the fans and if you have to go negative at times then fair play. All that matters is what happens in May not on a Monday night in October at the start of the season.
Why does is bother Liverpool so much
I think that is a fair and pragmatic summary.A point away from home in a huge Derby is a good result. To your question, Liverpool fans (myself included) may claim we are bothered because JM = boring game, but there is an element of frustration that a) JM's tactics made it hard to win on an occasion where we were favourites, and b) our 1H performance was so poor and disjointed

What JM & United did was devise & execute a plan pretty much perfectly. Given the task in front of them they can't be criticised for something that was so highly effective. Its also not as if they didn't try & win the game as well.
I'd expect more than a few managers in the prem paid close attention to that game & how United stopped Liverpool playing. As has been often been repeated, Liverpool's problem appears to be a lack of a "plan B".
There is also the element of jose saying fk you to the press for dismissing him as outdated,he wanted to show he can still provide good tactics and he got the team to perform to his plan, something they didnt do the first half vs city.
We've been to anfield before under fergy ,been battered for 89 minutes and stolen 3 points in the last minute, hearing the 'experts' talking about how fergy always used to go for to shows what utter nonsense they talk.

What was the plan v City at home/? Was there one? It might have helped if he had chosen the correct line up. He'll do the same Anfield performance in the return match I have no doubt. As he'll do in London this weekend also I think ... stifle the game and leave ideally with a point. They went to Anfield to make sure they didn't lose, which is never a bad tactic for you lot v your biggest rivals. We've been to anfield before under fergy ,been battered for 89 minutes and stolen 3 points in the last minute, hearing the 'experts' talking about how fergy always used to go for to shows what utter nonsense they talk.
The article is a touch gushing for my taste but does raise a bloody good point, he was awesome, has to have cemented a start you'd think
