With the greatest respect, buying Ings and Milner tells you all you need to know about Liverpool's ambitions next year.

Clyne expected too ...no way BR won't be in charge for me next year
Big clubs make big decisions, we sign Ings and Milner. 2 squad fillers, lets not pretend they are anything else. We've bought them because they're cheap. We still need a better central midfielder and striker.

Klopp with his announcement I fear we've failed to bring in. Mr Rodgers in charge of us next year will not have us competing any better than this season. Difficult to support your club when the owners look like they don't and a manager who spens more time living the lifestyle than 'fighting with his life' for the club, or whatever nonsense came out of his mouth.

When you shop in Primark, you cannae expect Saville Row quality.

My guess is FSG want one more gamble at top four then it's time to sell.

They're simply not willing to spend enough to genuinely compete for the PL title. I actually don't blame them tbh, the money in football is disgusting, and even spending big doesn't really guarantee anything these days.

I'd still like to see BR go but just can't see it now.

All these people complaining about Milner and Ings.

Who exactly do you think we should buy and how much would they cost in both transfer fee and wages??

I am not complaining. Just not excited.

If Milner was offered 160K a week to stay at city how much for a top notch player?

Eleventy billion transfer fee and a fkload squared per week. Approximately.

Im not sure what's funnier, Milner and Ings or Sye being all ITK

(Fwiw I think Milner is a decent buy, not fashionable but would do a very good job for you)

As a Saints fan who dips into this thread occasionally, it's fascinating to see the expectations of Liverpool fans and the reality. examples:
Clyne - He might come to Liverpool, but he wants Champions league football every year and I'd say that he can get it. We've all seen the 10 million bid with a year left on his contract, but I don't see him coming to you if Chelsea, Man City or Man Utd put in a bid.
Schneiderlin - I might be surprised, but I really cannot see him coming to you. He can have Europa league staying where he is and is good enough for the champions league
Selling us back Lovren/others - We don't want them back. They chased the money and good luck to them, but we've replaced them with equals or better

The challenge I think you face as Liverpool fans is that you have expectations of challenging for the title and attracting the very best players and managers. I think you're below that very top level now with Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City being able to buy up the very best before you get them. I'm not saying my team is going to compete, far from it, but you need to sort out the recruitment strategy (Thanks for 50 million last year by the way) and develop a structure which generates more truly world class players. You've done some of that (Sterling as a good example), but many Premier league clubs have not. (I think Southampton are closest in having a system which works e.g. Bale, Walcott, the Ox to give a few examples)

I guess I'm open to being shot down in flames here, but I think many Liverpool fans have unrealistic expectations of what their team will achieve and end up being consistently disappointed.

I think Liverpool are where we (Utd) were last year, they have to shoot for Top 4, another season with no CL will be very harmful. Milner is a player that can help with that IMO.

They can leave Schneiderlin alone, I want him at Utd.

I have been disappointed nearly every year since 1990.

The more I think about it buying Benteke would be disaster.

32m not particularly mobile 1 in 3 striker who has had a few injuries.

Again 32m!!!

Got to be someone better than that for similar money abroad.

We need pace and movement.

Little surprised at the lack of enthusiasm around James Milner on this thread. He's an excellent player and I'm actually pleasantly surprised he is willing to come to us considering what he's been offered to stay at City and the fact there are other teams sniffing around. This is a guy who has played almost 100 times in the last two seasons for the team that have come 1st and 2nd in the league those years who have spent hundreds of millions of pounds on other players, many of them midfielders. He is not a squad player and will play every week.

Ings excites me less - clearly a good player but not the 'guaranteed' 20 goal a season striker we need to have a decent shot at getting back into the top 4.

Off topic slightly, what is going on with Raheem? I haven't heard much over the last few days.

The trouble is Milner isn't a "sexy" player with tricks & pace, but he is a solid proven PL player who is great with both feet & can see out 90 mins of solid graft week in week out. Our midfield is full of young lightweight flair players who don't like tackling or being tackled, and seem to let their heads drop if things are not going out way. Personally I think Milner is a cracking signing especially on a free, he will add some much needed steel & determination to our lightweight side.

Ings is only 22, a mobile forward who runs in behind & likes a tussle, & will be up for proving his worth at a much bigger club, again on a free it's a no brainer & a significant step up over Borini, hopegully if we can get shot of Mario we then have Sturridge, Ings, & another quality striker hopefully, plus Lambert & we will have an interesting strike force.

Sterling should just be kept in his current contract for the next season, it's in his interest to perform as if he does not we still have another season after that to use him, plus if he does play well for us it's good for all involved. At 35k a week at the moment he's cheap so sod it just keep him.

Hence why we are bidding £20m for him

Even at that I am not sure he fits our style of play etc

You can both whistle for him. He's signing for Yeovil on a three year deal this morning, I interviewed him last night on it.

yes

Where do you think Milner will play? He's a squad filler, nothing more. A solid signing that adds depth but there's a reason why he hasn't featured regularly.

There's no way I'd play him centre midfield in either a 2 or 3 and if its behind the strikers in a number 10 position then we have Countinho and Lallana who are better in that role.

I think the signings of Milner and Ings whilst chasing Clyne is a sign that Mr Rodgers is changing formation again and going 433. I'm sure Milner will be a solid option here, nothing more. Even if Sturridge stays fit for such a formation to work we need 2 more mobile strikers in the squad, Origi might be one of these. Ings is not.

Infact that is the problem with our squad. Too many positions filled by players that simply are not good enough.

Milner is some much needed experience. Not sure who made up the stories last week about how he wouldn't come if BR was in charge. With a bit of luck he can be a "Gary Mac" type player for us for next season and help bring on and support the younger players a bit.

Most on here have wanted experience bringing in, not just youngsters with potential. It appears that's what FSG are doing, assuming he is signing.

Not thrilled at all by the pursuit of Ings or Benteke. Its going to be a long summer.
