Not bad wink...wonder what the others in the top 10 would have cost...21m rising to 28m seems to be a cracking deal

Di Maria at 21 and Sterling at 35? Skrtel at 64 all above Neymar at 68?!! And Sturridge even making the list despite him only playing 5 games this season!

it's average rating...
He has played over 40 games so gives you a good indication of the level he is playing at

I'm filing that list right next to the 'woodwork league table' from the other year.

I remember a poster a few years ago that posted Charlie Adam stats, that he'd covered more ground than any other player or some nonsense. That he was too fat and slow to get to the ball seemed irrelevant. As long as he covered the distance...

Anyone else think that the 25million we spent on Lallana last season is now for a squad filler?

I think the reality is that when we bought him he was definitely going to be first choice attacking midfielder. Although Coutinho had a good first season-and-a-half, he was pretty inconsistent. In fact, he was fairly inconsistent at the beginning of this season just gone, it was only when we hit a good run of form that he starting performing week-in week-out. Lallana obviously started the season injured and Coutinho has gone on to shine, so of course it looks like Lallana is unlikely to be first choice (depending what formation we play, I think he could play as part of a front 3 as he does seem to play very high up the pitch). I'm pretty sure if Lallana had been fit at the start of last season then we wouldn't all be talking so highly of coutinho now, as I suspect his opportunities would have been limited. (incidentally their goals/assists are very similar for last season despite Coutinho playing a lot more minutes I assume?)

Anyway, if lallana does end up being a squad filler, he'll be a very good one, and better than anything we've had previously so we shouldn't be complaining wink Even if our transfers last year haven't all turned out as well as hoped, at least they've enabled us to build a better squad, which going forward *should* mean a couple of transfers a year to fine tune things...

Wouldn't Berahino fall under 'potential' though, despite his impressive tally last season?

Besides, he is represented by the same agent as Sterling, so no chance we'd get a deal done.
Not to mention why would we sign someone from a mid-league team?
So where's Benteke from?
I was more using your complaints about a lot of the new players - potential from mid league sides, with perhaps one good season, of which we should be trying to aim higher.

We just need 1 Top class striker now.

Lets get it done ASAP and give the squad the whole preseason together.

We will easily be strong enough to make a dent in the Top 4 if we get the striker right.
So who do you think you can oust from the top 4

Chelsea ... No chance
Man city...No chance
Arsenal...No chance
Man utd , .. Possibly but they have not flexed their financial muscles yet

You may well finish 5th but 4th i feel is still well out of the question.

You're right - every other team should quit and just let the top 4 play a mini league!!!

Football is unpredictable - 13 months ago we finished above 3 of those teams. This time 2 seasons ago you would have probably said we had no chance of finishing above any of them too I'm guessing?

To answer your question I would say with the exception of Chelsea, they could all be vulnerable if Liverpool, Spurs or anybody else for that matter puts a decent run together.

I don't Agree Apart from Chelsea,

City need to do some serious rebuilding, they have a team that doesn't seem bothered anymore ( Yaya and Kompany especially ), Take Aguero out of the equation and they arent that scary.

Arsenal are a weird one they could easily come out next year and struggle, A bt like us I don't even think the fans know how the team will perform game by game.

Utd, Well that really is a strange one at the moment, It's ok saying they haven't stretched there financial muscle yet but why haven't they?

Do they have that big a kitty or are the owners filling there pockets again, they seem to have been linked with everyone but done nothing. ( and LVG has said he is going to try the kids out preseason. )

There's a huge difference between Berahino and Lambert or even Balotelli who we signed last season as strikers. Do you have an opinion on the lad or any other striker we're interested in?

My complaints from last season's window were not exclusively held by me. We bought badly. I look at Benteke and I see a target man. I'm not doubting his talent, rather whether he suits our style. If we buy him then the front 4 (when fit) are obvious. Thats not a team set up to play for a target man.

Firmino Benteke Sturridge
Coutinho
Milner Henderson
Moreno Sakho Skrtel Clyne

That makes Can, Lallana, Ings, Mario, Origi, Lovren, Lucas, Allen, Toure, Flanagan and Ibe all squad players. Even then I think we need another explosive central midfielder in there.

As for that starting 11, swap Henderson or Milner for a no nonsense midfield general and I think you have a team and squad that can compete, providing the manager doesn't have Firmino playing wing back or something stupid.

Sorry, was a bit of a silly dig from previous discussions. I actually have been agreeing with pretty much everything you've said this summer(!). However I do think some of the arguments about last season's players have been adapted with hindsight. I know you and others, including me, said we thought quite a few of last season's signings would do well before the start of last season (have a look at the posts from then if you want to check). Thus the same points from some of those signings now we have seen they haven't worked could be applied to Berahino.

I agree with Benteke, he would end up in a similar position as Mario - on the bench or not working in our squad if he plays. There's no point in going for a more static striker who will hold the ball up with the rest of the team being made for more quick passing mobile football. And 32 million on him... nope. We need someone with pace (perhaps Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but he seems to be going to Arsenal at the moment).
