I watched Benteke destroy us a few seasons ago. Yes he has more to his game BUT just look at last season at Villa. The lad woke up once they started throwing crosses in and lumping it up front. Prior to that he was pretty poor. If he's the best we can get for 30 million plus and suits what we want to do then fine, but this is not Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana or Sturridge's game.
I look at him and have nightmares about Andy Carroll. Anyway, didn't Origi keep Benteke out of the national team?
Benteke and Mario if he stays I think will rotate in the middle of a front 3 with Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Firmino and occasionally Ibe playing in the 2 other positions. There's a lot of risk there, if Sturridge is out is there really a 20 league goals player there?

Utd, Well that really is a strange one at the moment, It's ok saying they haven't stretched there financial muscle yet but why haven't they?
Do they have that big a kitty or are the owners filling there pockets again, they seem to have been linked with everyone but done nothing. ( and LVG has said he is going to try the kids out preseason. )
The transfer window isn't actually open yet. Yet we've agreed a deal for Delay for 25m. Apparently bid 42.5m for Ramos and if you believe the papers will sign Schneiderlin for 25m this week.Do they have that big a kitty or are the owners filling there pockets again, they seem to have been linked with everyone but done nothing. Our kittyis just fine

I read the rumour about Ramos, seems massively over-valued to me?I suspect we are just fking with them to get a decent price for DDG and he wants a new contract, well end up signing someone else instead I'm almost certain

Haven't you just paid almost £30mil for a bloke no one on here had heard about 2 weeks ago? Who was described in one of the papers today at a level below Fred?
No. We've paid just over £20m for one of the best attacking players in the bundesliga over the past two seasons. We're committed to paying nearly £30m if he turns into a success.jammy_basturd said:

Shame Berahino is managed by the same tosser that managers Sterling, as I think he would suit our team much more than Benteke, but perhaps we need someone slightly different to our current crop?
Ings & Origi will be the lighter strikers who press & run in behind, Sturridge is the all rounder & poacher type, & Benteke is the powerhouse that gives us a totally different option if we need it.... We certainly have the players to put good balls into the right areas for him.
On another note, Ron Vlarr is out of contract in 2 days, no news of him signing a new one with the Villa, maybe another free that would be worth snapping up? Alongside Lovren it would be a pretty strong Central paiting & might drag Lovren back into form, with Skrtyl being the competition to displace? (Is his contract sorted yet?)

Benteke would be a great addition imo, even in them boring can't put 3 passes together type of games you've always a chance with someone like him on the pitch hanging around the last defender. Unfortunately I also think we need to get rid of a few.. Balotelli, Allen, Lucas, Lambert, Borini and dare I say Mignolet & Lovren who still need to prove there worth.
Think we'll do much better next season (say that every year), Rogers is doing well with signings up to now.

Fully agree about Benteke, good player, no doubt but does he fit our style of play. we are not a crossing team, more neat fast pass and move. Yes he would be a great plan B striker but not a great new number 9 for us. Others would know better than me a player to fill that role, you have to assume DS will be injured most of the time sadly.I look at him and have nightmares about Andy Carroll. Seriously? I think you'll find that you are incorrect with this statement. I think nearly all footie fans were perfectly aware of both these talents. I certainly was. Had to Google the Brazilian that you've signed though. TTmonkey said:

Had to Google the Brazilian that you've signed though. If you mean that most people hadn't heard of Suarez and Torres before they came to the mighty Liverpool, then I beg to differ. Both had played in major tournaments before being signed by you. Torres was clearly a star player in the making, if you managed to look wider than Barca/Real. Suarez - well, he was very well known before Liverpool bought him. Dutch footballer of the year (thanks wiki) and a key role in World Cup 2010.
If however you are incredulous about your new Brazilian 30 odd million striker not being well known, well, cant remember him playing in Brazil 2014 (despite being in South America for the World Cup myself) and I don't remember him being in a team that figured well in Europe either. Has clearly scored plenty of goals, but any important breakthroughs? Many of Your own fellow supporters seem to support the question "we signed who?"
I suspect he's a future star and that you've probably bought a blinder..... we may well all be talking about him in 6 months time. But I'd still struggle remember him making any impact in the last three years.
Thinking on - if he was that good, you'd think a big club would have picked him up?
Sorry if my confusion of your initial reply isn't covered.
