An assistant manager who has only ever done well at Bournemouth and Doncaster.
I was really hoping for someone stand out.
Rodgers makes alot of bad decisions. The assistant manager should be there to help out I think.
Rodgers is young who one day may become a great manager but I was hoping for someone who's been there and done it in football to step in and help out at the club
Another.
Yes.
Man.
That's my take on it without looking at what the fellas done.
Strange decision, no doubt experience football man, who style of play suits BR thinking but i was hoping for someone with European and EPL experience! I was really hoping for someone stand out.

Seems a Mr Rodgers appointment
"Look at Sean O’Driscoll. He is one of the best coaches I have ever come across. He is working at Bristol City. He has never had a chance in the top flight. His teams were expressive, had movement, they were technical, but he will probably never get a chance at a higher level.”
Mr Rodgers October 2013

What cannot be doubted is the appointments of O'Driscoll and Lijnders give the coaching team knowledge and experience that is at a completely different level than was offered by their predecessors.
The Championship and kids football? Sounds like a good direction to be taking Liverpool to me Yes he has hired a 'Yes' man - doubt most people would hire someone who is going to go against the grain. O'Driscoll comes across as someone who is a thinker, not very vocal, which could be a good thing. If he quietly offers up his opinion that can be a good thing - and hopefully can quietly influence Rodgers into better decisions and tactics during play. Pascoe didn't seem to offer any of that; so in that respect, hopefully this is a step forward.
Marsh UEFA A licence. Pascoe none, (was good with the cones).
Lijders UEFA A licence, O'Driscoll UEFA Pro Licence. Then you can read their respective coaching and management histories, foreign and domestic. Anyone suggesting these appointments are a backward step is frankly talking nonsense.

Quite so. Get a grip, fellas.Lijders UEFA A licence, O'Driscoll UEFA Pro Licence. Then you can read their respective coaching and management histories, foreign and domestic. Anyone suggesting these appointments are a backward step is frankly talking nonsense.
Looking forward to seeing some of the youngsters (hopefully) get a chance in one or two of the cup runs this season; Sinclair, Ojo, Yesil...
We've also apparently signed this "wonderkid" from Barcelona due to their transfer ban: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/foot...

No-one would really want someone as a number 2 who you might feel would be after their job - you need someone who you feel will fully support you with no other motives. Paco would have been quite a strong appointment but if Brendan doesn't know him well and knows this other fella...
An interesting dynamic is that Marsh and Pascoe were sacked - and the feeling was BR had to agree this to save his own job. If that were true it would be odd that FSG would acquiesce to his choice of new deputies. Seems more like BR said "we have weaknesses, they need to go" and demonstrated he could do better without them.
If Pascoe has no coaching badges...what did he do exactly?

Did Paco ever express any interest in being an assistant again? Would seem odd for him to take a backward step. Same with Rene - he's been a manager at a couple of clubs now, you'd think his assistant days are behind him.Flip Martian said:

I have to agree with this - this appointment seems to fly in the face of the opinion that BR is having little say it what goes on.If Pascoe has no coaching badges...what did he do exactly?

It would be truly bizarre if FSG forced the change and then let Rodgers choose the replacements. So it must be that it was either Rodger's call all round or that FSG had a controlling say in both.
It's underwhelming but O'Driscoll is highly though of in the game.
