If we can play Lazer and Sterling as a wing back last season then I'm certain that Milner is more than capable of being used in that role.

I've not seen anywhere that we promised him central midfield. If we have, my concerns are that he hasn't really played there much in the last 4 years and that if he was to play in a midfield 3 I worry about our defensive cover.

We seem to be ideally set up for a team that plays with 1 striker yet don't really have a striker that is ideal as a lone striker. All fit and on form I can see

Henderson Can Milner
Coutinho Firmino
Sturridge

It'll leave 25 million Lallana on the bench, Origi, Ings and possible 32 million Benteke.

If we play a more classic 433 then it suits our attacking signings better with Can, Lallana, Ings and Origi as squad options.

Milner Henderson
Coutinho
Sturridge Benteke Firmino

I think this last formation is more likely. My issue is that central midfield just isn't strong enough defensively. If Milner plays there I think its either him or Henderson and not both. Be interesting to see who the captain becomes.
The Guardian said:
A plausible partnership is Milner and Jordan Henderson paired together in midfield. Both carry a similar range of traits, such as high energy, defensive commitment and goal threat that would offer Rodgers the tactical flexibility he enjoys. They could be the attacking elements in a three with Lucas Leiva, or the defensive base of a three with Philippe Coutinho; they could fit in the middle of a four-man midfield or to the sides of a diamond.

Not always clear from the link. A brief description wouldn't hurt over anyone's posted links.

There would have been some serious 'egg-on-face' had he not passed, given that they had already paraded him in the new Liverpool shirt.

I think medicals are a bit of a formality, if a club wants a player then the medical will be passed.

Are they a formality? I am not sure the insurance companies that cover them would agree.

If a player has a previously unknown defect, let's say heart, that could prematurely end their career, an insurance company would not touch that player with a barge pole or would offer a completely ridiculous premium. If a club is going to pay the best part of £29m, the medical is not a formality (although in most cases, players will pass the medical without issue).

What would have happened last year had they paraded Loic Remy in a red jersey prior to his medical?

Maybe there are exceptional circumstances, like drugs showing up in a medical (though, even then, say it was Messi we were about to sign, I'm sure the medical would miraculously be "rearranged").

There are a number of players with known heart defects, and even more that have had injuries when signed - Carroll had a FUBAR knee when we signed him for instance!
