Coutinho flourishes on attacking midfielders and strikers making runs. He'll play them through and/or play clever 1-2s with them to create space. It helps if the players around him have pace and technique. Be interesting to see how Firmino fits in and whether Ibe/Lazer can provide the pace in the wide areas in the absence of Sterling. Coutinho was our best player last season.
As for Benteke, who knows,we're all hoping he isn't an Andy Carroll and that Mr Rodgers is able to get the best out of him. I don't know enough about him to know what set up suits him. Is he a lone striker? Does he need to play in a front 2? How versatile is he across a front 3? Is he better on the counter or can he break down teams that defend deep? I've come to the conclusion that whilst my instincts are that he does not suit our style of play I've not followed him to have an informed opinion and its best that I sit back and trust Mr Rodgers in having an informed opinion and knowing how to get the best out of him NOT at the expense of Coutinho's natural game.
Will they get the chance to play a friendly or two together before the season starts?

Why not pop that question over to the villa lot in their section? they will probably answer it better than anyone for you As for Benteke, who knows,we're all hoping he isn't an Andy Carroll and that Mr Rodgers is able to get the best out of him. Dude, what ARE you playing at? How many times are you now going to say you haven't seen Benteke much so don't have an informed opinion/need to trust in BR? Seriously, if someone doesn't quote and respond the first time doesn't mean they haven't read what you've written. As for Benteke, who knows,we're all hoping he isn't an Andy Carroll and that Mr Rodgers is able to get the best out of him. FWIW I agree - a few have said similar. We haven't followed him enough so lets just wait and see.

If only there was some way of researching and educating oneself on one of our biggest transfers in a while. Alas, I guess we'll all have to live in ignorance until we've seen him play a few games. FWIW I agree - a few have said similar. We haven't followed him enough so lets just wait and see.

Good read. I like that the negative stereotypes towards Benteke is picked on and responded to. This bit worries me. Finally, we settled on a possession-based style with no end product which rendered Benteke useless.
I'm sure we'll find out soon enough though. Looking forward to a friendly or two where he gets to link up before the Stoke game.

I will admit I also had big doubts about CB, However after doing some research I am now leaning towards the idea he may be just what we need. Finally, we settled on a possession-based style with no end product which rendered Benteke useless.

I think we also try to play possession football (which could be a worry with CB) however we have the players to turn that possession quickly into attack which Villa didn't.
Will they get any friendlies together before Stoke ? possibly just the Swindon game ?

Well really I meant I haven't watched him play much. YT clips don't tell you much; stats say a bit more I guess. But I don't really want to sit through 90 minute Villa games online to see how well he does in a full match. Have never really mastered the quoting formula on here so just take my word for it.
RT...
9.30pm last night - "Now we have him, I'd be interested to understand how we get the best out of him? How will we do this bit?"
10.15pm last night - "Hopefully we know how to bring out the Benteke that played at Anfield 2 seasons ago and not the one that played at Wembley 2 months ago."
10.31pm last night - "He's here now so lets hope he performs and we manage to get the best out of him."
5.12pm tonight - "As for Benteke, who knows,we're all hoping he isn't an Andy Carroll and that Mr Rodgers is able to get the best out of him."
The same point made and then repeated four times in one day. I used to think that there were quite a few others that had the same point of view as you but I maybe should have checked who was posting. Chances are, I'd have seen your name and your name only in the margin.
Please stop repeating all the same stuff. A point is better made if it's made once.

In the little I've seen of Benteke he looks good on the counter attack but poor at trying to break down teams who park the bus.
Perhaps someone more informed can confirm or correct my view.
To be fair, playing for Villa I doubt he's had much exposure to teams parking the bus...Perhaps someone more informed can confirm or correct my view.
