I'd want to keep Mario if no other striker was coming in. Lambert for instance is a good striker but even he was left out and/or badly used last season. Add that Sturridge is still out injured and Origi very very raw, I'd not want to start the season with just Big Ben and Ings.

West Brom moved quick and so has Lambert. Signed him today and he's scored on his debut against Bristol Rovers tonight... eek

Shame really that it didn't work out for him as he is a good, honest pro with heaps of talent. At least he achieved his genuine dream of playing for his boyhood club.

yes

Was a legend at Rovers. Scored 59 goals in 139 games + 16 subs over three seasons.

Now added a second, WBA lead 3-0.

2 in one game.... I know it's a friendly against minor opposition, but he does score goals and it's a shame he did not work out at Liverpool as by all reports he is a top bloke

Really sorry that it did not work out for Lambert. Maybe the pressure playing for us may help at his new club.

I would like to see him do well.

BR didn't give Lambert or Borini a fair run.

Me too. Maybe that pressure of wearing a red shirt affected him. He never looked much good at all whenever he played; even in preseason. And yet most of us recognise he has talent. Hopefully he will have an off day when we play West Brom. smile

Totally agree. Feel sorry for both but I know I will get slaughtered here but I really want Mario to stay. I think he will step up to the plate this season plus we are not exactly overloaded with quality strikers and he is quality.

I'd love it if he did. But indications are he won't. Seems like BR doesn't rate him - perhaps a poor training attitude? And he's rarely looked bothered when he has been in the team, so I think BR is calling this one right.

I think the general consensus is that he doesn't really try much in training and can be quite disruptive.

Shame, apart from that I wouldn't mind him staying either.

How he performs in training would be the least of my worries. Lots of great strikers have been notoriously bad trainers.

His performances on the pitch always concerned me. If you want to stroll around then you better make sure you are invaluable with goals/assists. He's not a fit for the managers style and BR clearly doesn't want him so it's a waste of wages. I'd give him away for free if someone would take him - if we get some sort of fee then even better.

Everyone knows Balo is up for sale and the fact that there aren't any clubs circling tells you all you need to know about how he's viewed.

A bunch of Internet fans opinions are one thing but when those really in the know don't want him it says a lot.

I like Lambert & was hoping he'd be a Spurs player next season but i suppose signing him would go against all the current thinking at Spurs.

I don't think he had much of a go at Liverpool but as you say to play for the club you loved must be a great feeling.

I really hope he does well at West Brom, he's a good pro.

I thought the best we looked last season was Mario playing alongside a fit Sturridge with Gerrard playing behind. He thrives on quality around him. It wasn't just his head that went down last season and our worst displays did not have him in the squad. I think Mario was scapegoated at least a little bit last season.

Stuff like leaving a player behind to train with the reserves etc is just silly unless it is a fitness issue. I remember when Real Madrid did it with McManaman at the start of at least one season and then he went on to help them win a European Cup.

I'd keep Mario until at least Xmas. He is proven at a higher level than Ings or Origi and we have no idea when or how long it'll take Sturridge to get back to form. If Benteke needs support, he's the only striker I'd play next to him in a 4312. Just look at our first 10 games.

If we want to make a judgement on individual players not being good enough from last season then much more than Mario need to be sold.

Jose, is that you? You’re ruthless, cunning and won’t let anything get in the way of your team succeeding.
