Lucas is very important for us defensively.

Just a little idea here - we've looked pretty solid at the back for the first time in 3 years. For the first time in 3 years Gerrard isn't playing in central midfield.
Go away and wash your mouth out immediately lol... I think our 2 full backs are doing their job properly and Milner / Can in midfield is stiffening things up a little. It is also spreading confidence through to our centre backs.. Even Carra was impressed with Lovren after Monday's game, Said he looks like a totally different player the last few games.
If we can get the belief back we can go a long way with this squad... And we have Sturridge to come back yet.. Happy days.

We're also 3 games into a new season, including one against a newly promoted side and one against an Arsenal side that have been misfiring somewhat...

That said, even using just those 2 games we're 10 goals better off than last season!

Yeah that in itself is quite some statistic isn't it? Still, Leicester are firing pretty well at the moment - we may get tonked by them instead... laugh

Very impressed with Gomes and Clyne so far, they've had a great start. They'll hit rough spots (look at Ibe's start to the season) but hopefully play well more often than poorly. And fingers crossed Lovren and Skrtel have a good season together. They both made impressive interventions the other night.

James Pearce of Liverpool Echo telling some fascinating stories on Mario Balotelli:
• When the Italian striker asked what a team-mate was holding, he was informed it was the new iPhone 6. Balotelli, not yet in possession of Apple’s latest smartphone, was visibly irked according to observers.
Moments later he trooped out on to the training field to take part in the warm-up but within minutes he pulled up complaining of discomfort in his hamstring. Staff sent him straight back inside to be checked out by the medics.
When the Liverpool squad returned to the dressing room at the end of the session 90 minutes later, they were surprised by what greeted them.
There was a beaming Balotelli sat in the corner, with a new iPhone 6 in his hand and a few spares boxed up next to him. One of his minions had been hastily dispatched to do some shopping. The pain in his hamstring had miraculously eased.
• They couldn’t quite believe when they found him smoking inside the grounds of Melwood.
• During a team bonding exercise he claimed not to know who Joe Allen was - despite having shared a dressing room with the Wales international for months.
• Rodgers was angered by the size of the entourage that Balotelli welcomed into the team hotel the night before Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Basel last October. They stayed until the early hours of the morning.
The manager’s mood didn’t improve after that defeat when Balotelli, who hadn’t once touched the ball inside the Basel penalty box in 90 minutes, ignored his request to go and clap the away fans.
• After making a short cameo in January’s FA Cup win at AFC Wimbledon, Balotelli shrugged off the attentions of fitness coach Ryland Morgans and refused to do the usual shuttle runs requested of him during the warm-down as he headed for the tunnel.

I imagine this is only a snippet haha - you can totally understand why any manager would not want that in their set up though... be like having a teenage tearaway in the ranks.

He needs to realise AC really is his last chance of ever playing at a big club - shame really as the lad has so much talent he just does not know or doesnt want to use it.

Only so long he will get these handsome wages though, unless an American or UAE club come in for him (most probably outcome)

The iphone story is brilliant. As for not knowing who Joe Allen was, probably the same for the opposition midfielders in most games as they didn't recall ever being tackled by him. smile

Some other bits clearly show he had no respect for the manager. Hope it works out for him back at Milan, if only so we get some money back.

People can laugh but that's taking the piss out of the club, and the fans. Still, none of that matters because he wasn't given a fair chance in the team(!). Perhaps now stories like this are out there, we can all agree we've done the right thing getting shot of him this season - and at least some of his salary off the bill. What a spoilt .

I don't think we played to his strengths and that if we'd played him in a front 2 he'd have performed better on the pitch. I also think that if he'd been performing better on the pitch some of the other craziness would have naturally been dealt with.

I hope he goes and scores 20 league goals, if for no other reason than to make sure that we get some return on the money we've spent on him. And yes, I'd much rather read about his crazy antics whilst he's playing elsewhere.

The thing is that he's been well known for doing this kind of stuff since he first come on the scene,

The stories that come out about him are so so funny .

The funniest thing is that somebody actually agreed to pay £16M for him.

I find it bizarre the club allow players to bring entourages with them on trips. WTF is that all about?

I don't think any club should play to HIS strengths. He should do his best to fit in wherever he goes. Clearly he doesn't give a stuff and is happy to bring the money in and do what he wants.

Quite the most abhorrent excuse for a spoilt tt of a footballer I can remember us ever signing.

I have said this before RT - he has NEVER scored 20 goals in a season, why is that all of a sudden gonna change? let it go, he was the laziest player I have ever seen pull on a Red shirt - his appetite for the game was appalling - going to the game and paying £58 to watch him walk around used to drive me insane, glad to see the back of the lazy st.
Why should we have to play to his strengths? we pay him 90k a week, surely we can expect him to make runs, close players down its a joke we even talk about not playing to his strengths.

Yeah Diouf was a strange one. But I do remember him at least playing and scoring the odd goal for a while. That might be my memory going...

Balotelli: I have "played and lived like a boy" HOWEVER he goes on to reassuringly say: "I am no longer a kid".

Wish we had kept him. I blame Rodgers.
